Anthony Joseph has dropped the latest update on the £10 million Celtic transfer situation.

Celtic have been hoping for the club to be fast and get some signings done this summer. So far, the only addition has been Camilo Duran, brought in from Qarabag. The striker has looked good in pre-season to be fair.

That might not be the end of Celtic's search for options up top though. Especially after how things have turned out over the past week or so.

First, it became clear that Kelechi Iheanacho was not going to be continuing at Celtic Park by signing a new deal. Instead, he opted for a move to Turkey, one that weakened the Hoops' forward ranks.

Well, if Iheanacho's exit had weakened Celtic's forward ranks, the impending departure of Daizen Maeda is going to be even harder to deal with. The move is now on the verge of completion after everything has been agreed.

Anthony Joseph confirmed Daizen Maeda is set to undergo medical soon

According to Anthony Joseph, Daizen Maeda is scheduled to have a medical with Ipswich Town in the next 24 hours ahead of completing his move from Celtic.

Ipswich Town agreed a deal with Celtic for Maeda worth up to £10 million, comprising an initial £8 million fee plus £2 million in add-ons.

Maeda spent four-and-a-half years playing for Celtic. He arrived in early 2022, in the first season of Ange Postecoglou as manager.

And Maeda is someone who improved over time. The end of last season solidified his legacy as a Celtic player, as at times, he almost single-handedly got the Hoops over the finish line with his efforts over the last few weeks of the campaign.

This was the right time for Maeda to leave

Perhaps this is the right time to move on. He will be 29 in October. If he wanted to test himself in the Premier League, this feels like a good juncture.

Of course, one has to question the idea behind joining Ipswich Town. They have just been promoted to the Premier League.

The last time that was the case, they were immediately relegated. So, Maeda could find himself playing in the Championship a year later. One has to wonder if no settled Premier League were willing to take a risk on signing the 28-year-old.

There are some qualities of Maeda that are guaranteed to translate to the Premier League. You simply cannot overlook his relentless work rate and pressing. Now, it remains to be seen if he can score goals consistently, something he had an issue with at times at Celtic as well.
