Anthony Joseph has confirmed that Celtic are in talks with another striker after Camilo Duran.

Celtic are finally on the verge of getting one deal done this summer. Both a transfer fee and personal terms have been agreed upon when it comes to bringing Camilo Duran to Parkhead.

So, it looks like only a matter of time before that deal gets over the line. But there is a recognition that just signing Duran won't be enough to solve Celtic's problems going forward.

After all, they scored 39 fewer goals last season than in the 24/25 campaign. That is a significant drop and a cause for worry.

Duran is a good striker. But he managed 15 goals in 45 appearances last season. Also, Daizen Maeda looks likely to leave. Fortunately, Celtic are in talks with another striker.

Celtic in talks with another striker after agreeing Camilo Duran deal

While Maeda might be on his way out from the looks of it, it appears that Celtic are keen to keep hold of his strike partner from last season.

According to Anthony Joseph, Celtic are in talks to re-sign Kelechi Iheanacho. Martin O’Neill has admitted that he wants to get a deal done quickly to give the Nigerian striker a full pre-season.

That will be music to the ears of Celtic supporters. Iheanacho might not have started a lot of games last season, due to a combination of fitness issues and tactical strategy, but he did play an integral role in winning the league and cup double with his impact off the bench.

Iheanacho was scoring winners as an impact substitute at an unbelievable rate. So, Celtic fans will be hoping that he stays on.

Why did Celtic not take up the option to extend Iheanacho?

It confused many when it emerged that Celtic had allowed the option to automatically extend Iheanacho's contract for another season expire.

But it looks like it was not a sign that they did not want Iheanacho back for another season. Instead, it might have been a strategy to renegotiate his terms.

In one way, that is understandable. Iheanacho played very little football last season. So, the club might point towards that and offer him reduced terms.

It has been reported in the media that Iheanacho wants to stay at Celtic. That being said, there is interest from elsewhere as well. So, if he does not like the Hoops' offer, he might choose to leave.

One would hope that it does not come to that. Celtic need both Iheanacho's experience and unquestionable quality moving forward. He has proven he can deliver in Scottish football. And with a full pre-season behind him, he might even rediscover his fitness and play a lot more often.

In fact, it has even been reported by some that Iheanacho has already agreed terms on a new one-year deal.
