Celtic have been told to triple their bid to £10 million if they want to sign the 'electric' World Cup standout.
Celtic badly need to add some quality to their ranks in this summer transfer window after an underwhelming 25/26 campaign, even though a late run of form and sheer refusal to give up at times saw them win a league and cup double.
One of the areas badly in need of reinforcements is on the wings. Celtic did sign two wingers last summer, but neither really worked out.
Michel-Ange Balikwisha might go down as one of the worst Celtic signings of all-time. He was brought in for a transfer fee in the region of £5 million after more than a year of being linked with the winger.
Balikwisha only played a handful of games to start off his Celtic career, did not impress and was left frozen out of the first-team picture after that.
On the other hand, Sebastian Tounekti looked like an excellent signing early on but quickly lost his form. So much so that the fans wanted him to be dropped by the end of the campaign, even though he continued to get playing time despite constant underwhelming performances.
Celtic told to triple their bid to £10 million to sign winger
It is quite clear that Celtic need to sign wingers. They are believed to have been making a few moves as well.
Reports broke out in Spain earlier that Celtic had put in a €4 million (£3.4 million) bid to try and sign Haissem Hassan. But a lot more is needed.
According to The Herald, Celtic would have to stump up £10 million to sign Hassan. That is his release clause after Real Oviedo were relegated to the second division.
Real Oviedo will also have to hand over 40 per cent of any transfer fee to his previous club, Villarreal, due to a sell-on.
So, that leaves them in a position where they will want to get as much as they possibly can out of this transfer, even though it is pretty likely that Hassan will leave.
Would Hassan be the right signing for Celtic?
Hassan did not have a standout campaign for Real Oviedo. While his underlying numbers are impressive, he did have no goals and three assists over the course of the campaign.
It is his World Cup displays with Egypt at the World Cup that have caught the eye of fans across the planet though.
There is clearly a quality player in there. Of course, it is always about playing in the right team.
Let us not overlook the fact that Real Oviedo finished at the bottom of the La Liga table last season, and consequently, got relegated. It would not have been easy for a winger like Hassan to make his presence felt in that environment.
But if he ends up playing for a team that plays on the front foot at all times, like Celtic, he might show a different side to his game and have a lot more impact in front of goal.
Of course, on the back of this World Cup, other clubs are expected to be interested as well, which reduces Celtic's chances by quite a bit, especially if Premier League teams come calling.
