It has been claimed that Celtic have agreed on a deal with another striker alongside Camilo Duran of Qarabag.
Celtic scored 39 fewer goals in the league last season. There is no doubt that they need to try and find some solutions going forward. That task might be made even more difficult by the fact that Daizen Maeda is potentially going to be leaving this summer. There is no doubt that he is the club's best striker right now.
On the other hand, Celtic are believed to have agreed a deal to sign Camilo Duran from Qarabag. It is believed to be a £3 million fixed fee plus £2 million more in add-ons.
Personal terms are believed to have been agreed as well. So, it is believed to be only a matter of time before a deal gets over the line. A medical has already been booked.
Duran might not be the only striker Celtic have agreed a deal with recently though. The other one is a familiar face.
Celtic said to have agreed deal with Kelechi Iheanacho as well
It looks like there are whispers that Celtic have found an agreement on another year with Kelechi Iheanacho as well.
Former Celtic striker, Frank McAvennie, said on his Let Me Be Frank podcast:
“There was a rumour going about in Ireland that Iheanacho’s signed. He’s got another year.
“I’m delighted. What a game-changer he is.
“If he does that all the time, just bring him on for the last half hour if we need him.”
Why signing Iheanacho is the right step
If that is indeed the case, then it would have to be considered the right decision on the part of Celtic.
Firstly, Iheanacho was very important to this Celtic team with his performances last season. He might not have started many games, but he was an elite impact substitute, coming off the bench and scoring goals consistently, winning several games with his efforts, and playing a vital part in the double win.
Secondly, he is one of the more experienced players in this squad and someone who has played at the highest level. Celtic need that know-how.
It was a bit of surprise when Celtic did not take up the option to extend his contract by another year. Perhaps they were more keen on renegotiating the terms of the deal rather than open to the prospect of seeing Iheanacho leave.
If McAvennie's information is on the mark, then that agreement has now been found between the two parties. And it feels like the right step for both.
Celtic might be about to bring in Duran. But that might not be enough to solve their problems going forward.
Duran showed a ton of promise at Qarabag. But he scored 15 goals in 45 games. So, Celtic might need more goalscorers around him. Iheanacho is certainly one such player. And the hope is that Callum Osmand will continue to develop as well.
