Martin O'Neill has finally confirmed some transfer news that will go down very well with Celtic supporters.
The summer transfer window has been a bit of a tough watch for Celtic fans so far. While those around them have struggled, the Hoops have taken a familiar slow approach.
The issue is that this approach has not served them well in the past. On numerous occasions, it has cost them a chance in the Champions League. Yet, for some reason, lessons have not been learned.
Fortunately, things have picked up a bit of pace over the past few days. A move for Camilo Duran is believed to be only a matter of time after both a transfer fee and personal terms are reported to have been agreed.
The good news is, it looks like Duran might not be the only signing on the horizon for Celtic. At least that is what O'Neill seems to be hoping. He said:
“We have a number of players that we’re looking at.
“We’ve had a number of offers in for players as well at the same time.
“And I’m hoping by the time that, well, hopefully in the not-too-distant future, and I mean maybe in the next couple of weeks, that we will have some really decent players at the Football Club.
“To add to some very decent players we have at the Football Club.”
Who could Celtic sign after Camilo Duran?
Celtic have been linked with a few players recently. They have been all across the pitch, whether it be in goal, at centre-back, on the flanks or in the middle of the park.
It is hard to definitely predict which other players Celtic are currently working to sign. One rumour that has emerged over the past few days is that they could be ready to trigger Tjark Ernst's €5 million release clause.
So, it does appear that they do not see Viljami Sinisalo as the long-term answer in goal. Or at the very least, they want to add some genuine competition for the starting spot between the posts.
Obviously, there has been speculation about the club making multiple bids for centre-backs already. Let's see if any bears any fruit over the coming days and weeks.
Of course, midfield is an area definitely worth strengthening, especially if key players like Arne Engels and Benjamin Nygren end up leaving, alongside Reo Hatate, who is almost certain to do so.
The flanks need some strengthening as well. Michael-Ange Balikwisha and Sebastian Tounekti were signed last summer but did not meet expectations.
Celtic need to move quick
One of the things Celtic cannot ignore is the need to move quick and get deals done. They seem to have some talented players on their radar, but that comes with the interest of other clubs as well.
The better they do at the World Cup, the higher the chances other clubs will come calling and Celtic might no longer be able to financially compete.
Even if that is not the case, at the very least, there is good reason to bring in players before the Champions League qualifiers and get them settled in.
They have not done so in the past and the results have been quite clear. When was the last time the Hoops got through the qualification phase?
