Celtic have reportedly submitted a €4 million offer for the winger currently representing Egypt at the World Cup.

Celtic do seem to have been a lot more active in the transfer market over the last few days after a very slow start. A deal for Colombian striker Camilo Duran is thought to be close after personal terms were agreed and the Hoops were thought to be willing to meet Qarabag's asking price as well.

Of course, there are several other positions where Celtic need to improve as well. Not too much focus has been on the wings lately. But one cannot overlook the weaknesses in that area of the pitch.

Celtic signed two wingers last summer. Michael Ange-Balikwisha had been a target for over a year before the signing was made and one can only wonder what the scouts had seen. After playing a handful of games to start off his Parkhead career, he was completely frozen out of the first-team picture, having looked nowhere near the required quality.

On the other hand, Sebastian Touneki had started brilliantly and looked like someone capable of being a regular starter. He would lose his form quickly though and by the end of the season, he was viewed as one of the weak links in the team.

Jota has been out injured for over a year and is not expected to return anytime soon. And even when he does, it is unreasonable to expect that he will be the same player after such an injury and layoff.

So, Celtic need to sign a quality winger and they have submitted an offer for an Egyptian World Cupper out of nowhere.

Celtic submit offer for Egyptian winger currently at World Cup

According to reports that have emerged in Spain, Real Oviedo have received an offer of €4 million for Haissem Hassan from Celtic. Additionally, there has been some sounding out from Saudi clubs, without an offer yet.

Hassan is currently on the books at Real Oviedo and played in La Liga last season, providing three assists in 37 appearances.

Real Oviedo have dropped down to La Liga 2 though. Naturally, someone like Hassan might be looking for the next step. Could it be a move to Celtic?

Hassan's stats might not pop out of the page but some of the underlying numbers are certainly impressive.

What do the numbers say about Hassan

Let's remember that he was playing for Real Oviedo, a team that finished at the very bottom of the La Liga table to get relegated. It is difficult for a winger to put up big numbers at a club like that.

Yet, Hassan was in the 90th percentile for accurate long balls, 86th percentile for his accuracy on them, 89th percentile for successful crosses and 73rd percentile for expected assists.

Hassan also completed 61 dribbles, which put him in the 96th percentile in La Liga against positional peers. He was also in the 91st percentile for duels won, 87th percentile for tackles and 84th percentile for possession won in the final third.

So, that paints a picture of a winger who can dribble, has a good eye for a pass and is not afraid to put him about in the defensive side of things either.
