Celtic have finally made a transfer breakthrough and are on the verge of getting the move done after an agreement was reached.
It has been a frustrating few weeks for Celtic fans, that is for sure. They have seen the Hoops do little in the transfer window, at least from the outside looking in, while clubs around them have completed one signing after another.
Naturally, there have been concerns that we could witness a repeat of last summer, when Celtic did not do enough and ended up costing themselves a place in the Champions League, when it was there for the taking.
That simply does feel like a smart way of going about things when you consider the financial implications of just making it to the group rounds of the Champions League. If an extra player or two can help you achieve that, it should be a no-brainer.
Fortunately, it looks like the club have finally made a transfer breakthrough and are on the verge of making their first signing of the summer.
Celtic reach agreement as signing looks close
According to a report from Azerbaijani outlet Offside Plus, Camilo Duran is close to a transfer to Celtic. The Hoops are now prepared to pay £3 million.
On the other hand, Duran's agent was in Glasgow last Saturday, and the parties have reached an agreement on the terms of the contract.
So, on the personal side of the deal, everything appears to be in place. Now, it is about Celtic agreeing on a transfer fee with Qarabag.
It has been reported in the past that a £1.7 million offer was turned down by Qarabag. They were said to be holding out for around £3 million, which the Hoops are now seemingly ready to put on the table.
As a result, unless something unexpected happens, it feels like this deal should happen very soon.
What Camilo Duran brings to the table
In the past, I have questioned whether Duran would be the right fit in a team that has to break down low blocks pretty much every week. We shall see.
Nobody can deny his ability to make an impact in the Champions League. With five goals last season against teams like Eintracht Frankfurt, Benfica, Ajax and Newcastle United, there is certainly a bit about the Colombian striker's game.
Perhaps he can help Celtic in Europe, even if he faces some struggles in league competition. Last season, he managed 15 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions. That output will need to improve a little.
As for Celtic, it looks like Duran is not the only striker they are looking at. In fact, there seems to be someone who might be a brilliant fit for the team.
