Celtic appear to be eyeing a striker, available as a free agent, who would be absolutely perfect for this team.
Celtic will need to make more than one addition up front in this summer transfer window. Daizen Maeda looks very likely to leave after four-and-a-half years at Parkhead.
It remains to be seen if Kelechi Iheancho will join him out the exit door or not. If he does, serious questions will be asked about the board, thanks to the Nigerian striker's excellent finish to the 25/26 campaign, as he was instrumental in winning the double.
On the other hand, Celtic are believed to be closing in on a deal for Camilo Duran. But despite his solid Champions League record, signing just the Colombian striker would not be enough.
Fortunately, they have also been linked with a free agent striker who would be absolutely perfect for the Hoops.
Celtic interested in 28-year-old Norwegian striker
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Italian club Sampdoria have made contact with Tobias Lauritsen. The striker is now a free agent and is also being followed by Celtic.
Lauritsen was playing in the Eredivisie for the last four seasons for Sparta Rotterdam. Now, he is out of contract.
That is not down to a lack of performance though. In his four seasons with Sparta Rotterdam, he never scored fewer than 10 goals in a season. Overall, he managed 52 goals and 22 assists in that time.
Firstly, the fact that he is a free agent should appeal to Celtic. But even more importantly, his data suggests he would be absolutely perfect.
Tobias Lauritsen's data is off the charts
Lauritsen has put up some mind-boggling numbers in the Eredivisie. They paint the picture of a striker who is absolutely complete and contributes in every phase of the game.
Last season, compared to positional peers, Lauritsen was in the 90th percentile or higher in pretty much every meaningful metric in front of goal. Also, standing at 6' 4", he was in the 96th percentile for headers, something that would add a presence up front for Celtic they have been missing for years.
Also, he was excellent when it came to creating for those around him as well. Lauritsen was in the 90th percentile for assists, 92nd percentile for expected assists, 94th percentile for successful passes, 96th percentile for big chances created and 100th percentile, the very best in the league, for chances created.
Lauritsen also won more duels and aerial duels than anybody else in the league, with a success rate over 60% in each category.
But this does not mean that he is a target man rarely involved on the ball. Lauritsen was in the 94th percentile for touches, fouls won and touches in the opposition box.
If you have any question marks over the defensive side of his game, he contributes in that phase of the game as well. He had more defensive contributions, clearances and clean sheets than any other striker in the Eredivisie. He was also in the 94th percentile for possession won in the final third and 90th percentile for interceptions.
Looking at those numbers, he looks like one of the most complete striker profiles I have seen Celtic being linked with in a long time.
Norway have produced some pretty good strikers in recent years. One of them knocked Brazil out of the World Cup yesterday. And Lauritsen looks like someone capable of producing some quality moments himself, if Celtic end up signing him as a free agent.
