Another move looks close as Anthony Joseph has confirmed that the defender is holding talks with Celtic.
Celtic have signed two players in quick succession. Yesterday, they announced the signing of Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo.
Today, they have followed that up by confirming the arrival of Mika Baur from Paderborn. But the Hoops are showing no intention of slowing down. A defender seems to be next on their list of transfer targets.
News broke out yesterday when Stephen McGowan reported on The Celtic Way that the club were close to a loan deal for a left-back.
The player was not named by McGowan though. But now, that mystery has been cleared up and it looks like we have the identity of the left-back in question.
Defender in talks to join Celtic
According to Anthony Joseph, Chelsea left-back Landon Emenalo was in Scotland to hold talks with Celtic over a loan deal, as well as view the facilities at the stadium and training ground.
Emanalo has not played a competitive senior game for Chelsea yet. But when given a chance, he did look quite impressive in their pre-season outings.
Emanelo has been one of Chelsea's most important players at youth level though, and is someone who is expected to have a bright future in the game.
It is also worth pointing out that he is the son of former Chelsea technical director Michael Emanelo, a name many would be familiar with.
Is Emanelo a risk worth taking for Celtic?
Celtic signing Emanelo would clearly be a sign that the club are just looking for a short-term fix in that left-back position.
Emanelo is not someone you would expect to end up at Celtic permanently. He is rated far too highly by Chelsea and it is very likely going to be a dry loan deal without an option or obligation.
Of course, Emanelo would be the backup option to Kieran Tierney. But can Celtic rely on him to be the starter, if the Scottish international does end up with an injury at some point this season?
They do need a cover left-back capable of stepping into that starting role seamlessly, owing to Tierney's injury history.
Marcelo Saracchi would have been perfect for that role and had proven himself last season. But for some reason, Celtic did not end up signing him this summer on a permanent basis.
Now, this is not me saying that Emanelo cannot do that. The talent is quite clearly there. But at the end of the day, he is an 18-year-old without a single senior appearance to his name. So, the risk would be there.
