Celtic fans were not particularly happy with the club's announcement from earlier in the day.
It has been quite some time since the summer transfer window opened and Celtic have not made any signings yet. A lot of fans are starting to get worried as a result, as there is a feeling of deja vu about the entire situation.
In the past, we have seen the club not sign players early in the summer. That has constantly ended up costing them their place in the Champions League.
The previous campaign was a great example when they could not score over two legs against Kairat Almaty before losing on penalties.
Considering the financial difference that qualifying for the Champions League makes, it is remarkable that the club do not show more ambition to qualify for it. And clubs like Bodo/Glimt have shown that it is possible to make deep runs in the competition even while working under budget constraints.
Celtic fans unimpressed by club's latest announcement
Celtic did make a positive announcement today. They have finally confirmed that Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham will be continuing on in their roles in Martin O'Neill's coaching staff.
Fans were not particularly impressed though. As one supporter wrote: "Congratulations. You did the absolute bare minimum."
Another said: "Taking that long for backroom staff."
A third added: "How many weeks to announce backroom staff!"
To be honest, it is very easy to understand the frustration. Something like this should have been over the line with the O'Neill appointment itself.
Instead, the club took so much longer to get it over the line. For a good while, it had looked like Maloney and Fotheringham would not even continue.
The positive is that it has not happened. But at the same time, that does not make it a major coup as a consequence either. One fan put it as the 'bare minimum' and that feels like an apt description.
What Celtic need to do next
Well, it is pretty clear what Celtic need to do next. They must add some quality to the squad. It has been missing for a while now.
Last season, Celtic barely found a way to get past the finish line. It was a mixture of the team's 'never give up' attitude, the coaching team's ability to get the most out of the least and the struggles of their direct rivals in the title race.
This won't be repeated every time though. Celtic will need to be a lot better next season if they want to win a sixth league title in a row.

The fear is that they will repeat the mistakes of the past. Lessons might not have been learned from the recent failures.
If that is the case, the fans could be in for another long and frustrating season of football. Hopefully, it does not come to that.
