Celtic's first signing of the summer transfer window seems close as the club are now confident of agreeing a deal.
The summer transfer window has been ongoing for a little while now. So far, Celtic have not been able to get any deals done although other clubs are already making their moves.
This is the fear that a lot of the club's supporters would have had, that Celtic would repeat their mistakes and not move fast enough once again.
Just look at how it has served the club in the past. They missed out on Champions League qualification last season because of it.
In fact, it is hard to remember the last time Celtic qualified for the Champions League when they had to go through a qualification process. More often than not, it has been the same tale.
Celtic have seemingly waited on Champions League qualification before completing their summer business. And as a consequence of it, they have not been able to get past the teams in the qualifiers.
Celtic now closing in on first summer signing
Fortunately, it looks like the club are finally closing in on their first real signing of the summer transfer window. It is not a fresh face for the fans though.
According to Football Insider, Celtic are "confident" of agreeing a deal with Boca Juniors to sign Marcelo Saracchi.
Celtic have already seen a loan offer get rejected this week. But that has not deterred them in this transfer race.
Martin O'Neill is said to be keen on bringing back Saracchi. The left-back is said to be open to a Celtic return as well. And talks are expected to take place this week.
Why Saracchi would be an excellent signing for Celtic this summer
It is easy to overlook the importance of someone like Saracchi. But he was a key part of Celtic's success last season.
Saracchi was largely viewed as a backup option to Kieran Tierney. Based on performances, a lot of fans wanted to see him start.
That just goes to show how impressive he was. Celtic fans would not want just anybody starting ahead of club legend Tierney, who returned last season as a free agent when he is believed to have had more lucrative opportunities available elsewhere, including a potential move to Juventus.
If Saracchi does indeed end up returning to Celtic this summer, it would have to be considered a major coup for the club. And it would very much be a key addition, not a luxury one.
You cannot simply downplay the importance of having a quality backup option to someone like Tierney, who has a long injury history.
Tierney did well to remain fit for the majority of the previous campaign. That being said, that does not mean that it will continue to be the case. A club like Celtic must always remain prepared for the worst-case scenario.
