It appears that Celtic have already made a bid for the Premiership midfielder as they look to sign him this summer.

Celtic's recruitment in recent times has been pretty hit and miss. The club have been able to pull off some quality signings for sure. But at the same time, they have missed the mark more often than not.

There is a suggestion that Celtic should look to target players already proven in the Premiership more often than they have.

Celtic have rarely signed players from other Premiership clubs. But considering how tight things were last season, it is pretty clear that there is quality to be found in the rest of the league.

Interestingly, it looks like the Hoops are keen on signing one of them. In fact, if reports are accurate, then a bid has already been made.

Celtic Make Offer for Premiership Midfielder

According to CeltsAreHere, Celtic made an approach for Miguel Chaiwa of Hibernian towards the end of May. That offer did not lead to a deal, but the interest has not gone away.

Celtic have been linked with Chaiwa for quite some time now. Hibernian are believed to be holding out for a fee in the region of £7 million to part ways with the Zambian international midfielder. But the report suggests that a fee in the £4-5 million range could be enough to get it done.

Chaiwa is 22 years of age but has already proven his quality in the Premiership. And he would add a very different type of option to Martin O'Neill's side.

What Chaiwa could bring to the table for Celtic

Chaiwa is a defensive midfielder. Celtic have not had a specialist in that role for many years now.

Ismaila Soro had enjoyed a brief run in the starting XI but did not manage to hold on to his place for long. Oliver Abildgaard was brought in on loan and spent barely half a season at Parkhead before heading back.

The one who should have been a success is Tomoki Iwata. He had the quality but it was perhaps a case of right place, wrong time. He has proven himself since leaving.

Now, it looks like Chaiwa has been identified as the one who could help Celtic in that position of the pitch.

Chaiwa is known for his high-energy displays, ability to win the ball back and dynamic work rate. Celtic simply do not have that profile at this moment in time.

One could also argue that it is a profile they have missed for some time now, especially in the big games, where they often end up giving up control of the midfield and are overrun quite easily.
