It looks like Celtic are already proceeding in talks to sign the 27-year-old Croatian player this summer.

Celtic fans are still waiting for the club to make their first signing of the summer transfer window. While those around them are showing ambition and a willingness to improve, the Hoops seem stuck in one place, like they often have in previous windows as well.

There are numerous areas in the squad where reinforcements are a necessity, not merely a matter of adding depth or finding a better option.

That has made the club's lack of activity even more frustrating for the fans. Right now, they do not even seem particularly close to making a signing. One can only hope that Celtic are merely working quietly.

Interestingly, reports have emerged today suggesting that Celtic have entered talks to sign a Croatian player in this summer transfer window.

Celtic already in talks to sign goalkeeper

One of the areas where Celtic must add this summer is between the posts. Kasper Schmeichel has retired due to a serious injury he suffered in the middle of last season.

At the very least, Celtic need to bring in a goalkeeper capable of competing with Viljami Sinisalo. And it appears that they have someone with a ton of potential on their radar.

According to journalist George Tsarouchas, Celtic are in the race to sign Dinko Horkas. They are already in proceeding talks with Las Palmas for the Croatian goalkeeper, who is likely to leave Spain this summer.

The reports of Celtic's interest in Horkas had first emerged yesterday. Now, it looks like the situation could be more advanced than thought.

Who is Dinko Horkas?

Like a lot of the goalkeepers Celtic have been linked with in recent times, Horkas plays in the second division currently. It looks like that is going to be the trend this summer, the Hoops trying to find quality talents in lower leagues.

Coming back to Horkas, he is on the books of La Liga 2 side Las Palmas. Of course, they have had their fair share of trips to the top division in recent times.

At an individual level, Horkas is coming off a solid season. And it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in a goalkeeper of his profile.

Horkas conceded 39 goals in the league last season while facing an xGOT of 43.03. That means that he prevented four goals. For context, Sinisalo underperformed in that category.

Horkas also had a 72.1% save percentage, made 101 saves in total and kept 13 clean sheets as well.

Horkas' work with the ball at his feet might be just as big a reason as to why Celtic might want to sign him. The Croatian played more successful passes than any other goalkeeper in La Liga 2. He was also in the 95th percentile when it comes to acting as a sweeper and 91st percentile for chances created.

So, it does seem like the kind of goalkeeper you would want in a ball-playing system, where the focus is on keeping possession and building out from the back.
