Martin O'Neill has confirmed that the Celtic player won't be able to face Hibernian this weekend.

Celtic have a very important game coming up against Hibernian this weekend. Winning will take them one step closer in the title race. If the Hoops can return with three points from Easter Road, that will put all the pressure on Hearts and the Rangers.

Those two are set to face off this weekend as well. So, at least one of them is guaranteed to drop points. Both might. Whichever way it goes, it is vital that Celtic keep their end of the bargain and win.

One of the biggest issues Celtic have faced in recent times is their lack of goals. Over the past couple of games, they have been a bit better in that aspect.

The flurry of goals in extra-time against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup semi-finals might have opened the floodgates for the Hoops. On that day at Hampden Park, they scored four in six minutes. That was followed by three against Falkirk.

Against Hibernian, Celtic will surely be looking to right the rediscovered form of Daizen Maeda and Kelechi Iheanacho's ability to make an impact off the bench.

On the other hand, their other strikers seem to be dealing with fitness issues. Tomas Cvancara has picked up an issue that could rule him out for the rest of the season if he does end up needing surgery.

Fans had hoped that Callum Osmand would be returning at exactly the right time to help with the lack of depth up top. But it has been confirmed that he won't feature against Hibernian at the weekend.

According to The Herald, Martin O'Neill said about the fitness status of Osmand: "It's a wee bit early for him.

"He played in the B team, he only played for a half on Tuesday, which was great.

"And he's looking really good. He’s a similar injury [to Johnston] at the time. He had a little bit of a setback, so did Alistair when he was with Canada.

"But he's making really good progress, doing fine."

So, while the Hibernian game is going to come a bit early for Osmand, it is good to see that he is close to a return.

Osmand has not featured for months. In fact, his last senior appearance came in November.

Those with a keen memory will remember that Osmand had actually started to impress with his performances and looked like someone who could be ahead of his expected development, and ready to make an impact at the senior level already.

Unfortunately, he suffered a long-term injury at the worst possible time. That being said, nobody should forget how good he was in those games earlier in the campaign.

So, if Osmand is available for the last few games of the campaign, it would have to be viewed as a boost for the Hoops.
