Celtic have been handed some good news ahead of the game against Hibernian this weekend.
Celtic will face Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic in the final of the Scottish Cup. But from here on forward, every match feels like a final for the Hoops.
They have four league games left. Hearts are still three points ahead of them. Rangers are a point behind. All of them are yet to play each other. So, there could be plenty more twists and turns before the league title race comes to an end.
Hearts will face Rangers on this matchday. So, at least one of those two will drop points. But before Celtic can worry about that, they need to take care of their own business at hand.
That is a game against Hibernian. It is an away fixture as well. And Celtic have already lost to Hibs this season. They won't want to repeat that.
In fact, they cannot afford to drop any more points between now and the end of the season. Daizen Maeda's good form and Kelechi Iheanacho's ability to deliver off the bench has Celtic looking slightly better than they have for most of the campaign. But one slip up and their title ambitions could be as good as over.
Injuries have been a thorn in their path for most of the campaign. But for a change, there is some positive news.
Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has been out for several months and underwent surgery, is now back in the mix at training. While exactly when he will return still is not clear, just the possibility that he could feature before the end of the campaign should be a mood lifter.
Martin O'Neill said about the American centre-back when speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game against Hibernian: " Carter-Vickers has joined in today, but I think that’s a bit of a distance off at this minute, particularly considering the injury he’s had.
“But knowing him, he’d want to play Sunday. He’d throw himself out there.”
It remains to be seen when Carter-Vickers is available for first-team action again. Celtic will be sticking with the centre-back options they have for the time being though.
And they deserve their fair share of credit for keeping it competitive in recent times, even when Celtic have struggled to score too many goals themselves.
For now, the focus will be on the trip to Easter Road and getting all three points there, somehow. Then, we can think about whatever is to come in the future.
As for Carter-Vickers, it is quite clear that he won't be involved against Hibernian. But his return to training is a positive nonetheless and one that should lift the mood of the squad as well.
Celtic should take things very slowly when it comes to the defender though. If he cannot feature before the end of the season, that is completely fine. What is important that he is fully fit by the time he returns to the pitch eventually.
