Hearts could only manage a draw against Motherwell, leaving Celtic in control of their own fate in the league.
Celtic will know that they need to go out and get a win against the Rangers this weekend to remain in the title race. Anything else and Hearts will just need one win out of their remaining to league fixtures to pretty much guarantee themselves the Premiership crown.
Celtic were handed some added motivation right before the Glasgow Derby though. Hearts could only manage a draw against Motherwell.
That result means that Celtic can go within one point of Heart with a win this weekend. But even more importantly, it means that the Hoops now have their own destiny in their own hands. If they win their remaining three games in the league, they will be champions of Scotland. They no longer have to depend on other results going their way.
So, it would be safe to say that the fans were pretty delighted to see Hearts drop points at the weekend.
One wrote: "STAND UP AND SING FOR MOTHERWELL."
But then, some recognise the fact that the Hoops still have to play against Motherwell in the league this season and that is not going to be an easy fixture. As one Celtic fan wrote: "Well done Motherwell but we have to play you Wednesday and not looking forward to it."
Overall, this was what Celtic would have hoped for. The only better result would have been Hearts losing, but that was not to be.
Anyways, it does give Celtic some breathing room. But then again, they cannot afford to lose. That is for sure.
Let's see how they handle the Glasgow Derby today. Is this a team that will rise to the occasion and get a result against their rivals? Or will they fold under the pressure?
To be fair, Celtic have done better in recent weeks. But even then, goals remain a huge issue for them.
Even with Hibernian down to ten men, Celtic needed a late goal from Kelechi Iheanacho off the bench to get all three points.
Ultimately, at the end of the day, it is the result that matters. The history books won't remember the manner in which the league was won, as long as it is.
Today, we go into one of the most important Glasgow Derbies in recent memory. Celtic have all to play for. On the other hand, the Rangers are almost certain to finish this campaign trophyless. But even then, they would want to prevent the Hoops from winning the league. So, expect this to be a tight contest.
Celtic have not won a Glasgow Derby inside 90 minutes in their last nine attempts. They will need to change that if they want to be league champions.
