Celtic have been handed some worrying news about Marcelo Saracchi, who many fans want to see be signed permanently.
Celtic's recruitment has let them down time after time in recent years, which is one of the primary reasons why the squad has deteriorated so significantly since the departure of Ange Postecoglou in 2023 after a treble-winning campaign. No other team in Scotland was in the same stratosphere as the Hoops in that 22/23 season.
The recruitment team is still able to pull off a few good deals from time to time though. The one to bring in Marcelo Saracchi on loan from Boca Juniors has to be one of them.
When fit and available, Saracchi has been brilliant for Celtic. Some even feel that he should be starting ahead of Kieran Tierney.
While that is unlikely to happen, it would be fantastic if the club were able to sign Saracchi on a permanent basis from Boca Juniors in the summer.
Unfortunately, there seems to be some worrying news in that regard as it looks like Saracchi is already drawing interest from other clubs in Argentina on the back of his performances in a Celtic shirt.
According to El Crack Deportivo, Racing are keeping an eye on Saracchi, who will return to Boca Juniors in the summer.
Now, it is up to Celtic to go out and compete with other clubs for the signature of Saracchi. The club already lost a quality left-back last summer when Greg Taylor left at the end of his contract. They cannot afford to let the Uruguayan international depart as well.
That being said, the ultimate decision will lie with the player. If he wants to continue at Celtic, it will make the move a lot easier to pull off.
But then, there is the fact that he is the second-choice at Celtic. Could Saracchi be more interested in having a starting role, in which case, a departure becomes pretty likely.
A return to South America might be of interest to Saracchi as well. So, let's wait and see how this plays out over the coming weeks and months.
If Celtic are unsuccessful in signing Saracchi, then it would leave a gap in the squad. We all know about Tierney's injury history. So, it is important to always have a quality back-up option at left-back.
Of course, Saracchi is capable of playing on the right as well. And considering the lack of quality wingers at Celtic right now, one has to wonder if having either the Uruguayan or Tierney on the wing should be an idea worth considering.
