The Celtic hero has been tipped to make a Parkhead return this summer if Shaun Maloney moves to a different role.

It would be safe to say that bringing back familiar faces has worked out quite well for Celtic in the recent past. Obviously, we all saw what Martin O'Neill was able to achieve with a struggling squad, guiding them to a league and cup double.

Shaun Maloney was believed to have played a large part in that as well, as did Mark Fotheringham as part of the coaching staff.

More recently, Robbie Keane had emerged as one of the frontrunners to take on the Celtic job this summer, as O'Neill's future was in doubt.

If Keane does get the job, there have been suggestions that he would look to bring in Scott Brown and Jonny Hayes as part of his coaching team.

Brown is without a job at the moment having been shown the exit door by Ayr United earlier this year. On the other hand, Hayes has already been coaching Celtic's B team.

Then again, one has to take into account the reports that have broken out today that O'Neill will be staying on as the permanent manager of the club for at least another season.

Nothing is official yet. But considering the amount of momentum the news has picked up, it looks as good as done.

Of course, this might not be the end of the Hoops bringing back club heroes to coach as well as take on roles beyond the pitch.

Rumours are now doing the rounds that Aiden McGeady could be a possible fit for Celtic’s Professional Player Pathway Manager role if Maloney moves into a more senior role after this season.

It remains to be seen if that will happen or not. McGeady is another player who came through the club's youth ranks and became a success at the senior level.

So, he could be a good fit for that role. Now, it remains to be seen if there is anything concrete to the speculation or not. But on paper, it does make sense.

As for overall things, the first priority for Celtic has to be bringing in a new manager as soon as possible.

It looks like that is going to be O'Neill. We are awaiting the official announcement on the part of the Hoops, but that should come in due time.

The next thing will be to focus on rebuilding the squad. O'Neill did pull off a few minor miracles last season but one cannot expect him to continue to do that.
