Celtic appear to be eyeing the duo heading into the summer transfer window.

Celtic should be looking to strengthen their squad significantly in the upcoming summer transfer window. No matter how this season ends for them, with two trophies, one or none, it is evident that this team is not good enough.

The football that they have been playing for months now is not the Celtic standard, digging out wins by a one-goal margin at best. It has been quite some time since they put in a convincing performance. And going into the post-split fixtures, not many are confident that this team has what it takes to get past Hearts, Rangers or even Motherwell, on current form.

Several positions across the pitch need strengthening. Interestingly, it looks like Celtic are keeping an eye on their Scottish rivals for potential transfer targets.

Celtic have rarely signed players from Scottish teams in recent times. The only names that come to mind are David Turnbull, Luke McCowan and Benjamin Siegrist. Of course, they have been linked with several, but those moves have not materialised.

Now, it looks like the club have their eyes on not one, but two players currently plying their trade in the Scottish Premiership.

Journalist Stephen McGowan appeared on the PLZ Soccer and said: “I think Miguel Chaiwa is certainly one Celtic are interested in. No question about that. They are looking at Elijah Just as well.”

Of course, Celtic have been linked with both names for the last few months now. And the rumours would not have persisted for this long if there was nothing concrete behind it.

Motherwell have been one of the best teams in the Premiership this season, exceeding all expectations. There is a reason Jens Berthel Askou is believed to be one of the frontrunners for the Celtic job once Martin O'Neill steps down in the summer.

Naturally, Celtic's interest in one of their best players is understandable. Just has scored seven goals and provided seven assists in the Premiership this season. But he has been making a contribution on the other side of the game as well.

The New Zealand international's underlying numbers are incredible. This season, he is in the 90th percentile or higher for expected goals, shots, shots on target, dribbles, duels won, touches, touches in the opposition box, fouls won, assists, expected assists, successful passes, accurate long balls, chances created, big chances created, defensive contributions, recoveries, possessions won in the final third and tackles.

That is quite the list. And based on that, it is pretty easy to understand why Celtic have their eye on Just.

On the other hand, Chaiwa has earned a lot of praise for his work in the middle of the park for Hibernian. Celtic have needed a quality defensive midfielder for years now, but nobody has been able to come in and make that role their own.

Chaiwa's Scottish Premiership experience does give him an advantage. But is he good enough to come in and immediately get into the Celtic starting XI? We have our doubts.
