Celtic have made their move for the 23-year-old midfielder, who is set to take part at the 2026 World Cup.
The World Cup is just a few hours away. It is a time that football fans have been waiting for for four years. For the next month-plus, the headlines around the planet will be dominated by the beautiful game. And it looks like Celtic have their eyes on someone who is going to be involved in the tournament.
Obviously, club football will be out of focus for a little while. But that does not mean that Celtic will not be working behind the scenes, trying to improve their team as much as possible.
Midfield is one area which might need the most attention this summer. Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo are almost certain to depart after their lack of playing time.
Arne Engels continues to be linked with a big-money move away as well, after a £25 million bid was turned down in the winter.
And Benjamin Nygren has not ruled out the chances of a move away this summer either, as he is believed to be on the radar of some Premier League clubs after a high-scoring debut campaign in Glasgow.
So, it will be very interesting to see how Celtic try to go about finding replacements for any potential exits this summer. It does look like they are already making moves for one midfielder headed to the World Cup.
According to Football Insider, Gianluca Di Marzio said to SpilXperten:
“Celtic really wants Benjamin Tahirovic. They like him a lot, but of course I cannot guarantee that they will finish the deal with him and Brondby. But for sure, they already contacted the club to ask for information on this player, like the price and the opportunity to get him.
“Personally, I think he can be a very good player for Celtic. I remember him from AS Roma and he has the right abilities, but on a personal level and football-wise, but we will have to see.
“All I can say is that they want him, and they are trying to get him.”
Tahirovic is not someone who will add a ton of goals or assists to this midfield. But he will add some much-needed size and physicality, which has been missing for years now.
Tahirovic is currently on the books at Brondby. Of course, the name of the club will be very familiar to Celtic fans.
Celtic tried to sign Mathias Kvistgaarden for years without finding an agreement, only for him to end up joining Championship club Norwich City.
Celtic fans will be hoping that it does not take nearly as long for them to get a final answer when it comes to Tahirovic.
Any signing might take a while though as he is part of the Bosnia & Herzegovina squad at the 2026 World Cup.
It is good to see that Celtic have already made contact and are trying to see if a move will be viable or not.
It will be very interesting to see whether the Hoops are able to get a deal over the line, and if they are, what kind of transfer fee it takes.
