Celtic have entered the race to sign the Manchester United midfielder who has suitors in England as well.
Midfield is one area which should be in particular focus at Celtic right now. Mika Baur has been signed from SC Paderborn. But on the other hand, the Hoops have lost quite a bit in the middle of the park as well.
Arne Engels has joined West Ham United in a club-record £22 million transfer. Paulo Bernardo has left on loan. And it is widely expected that it is only a matter of time before Reo Hatate gets a move away as well, after barely featuring under Martin O'Neill.
Obviously, that leaves the midfield in need of a revamp. The arrival of Baur is part of the solution but it won't solve the departure of three.
So, more signings are needed in midfield. A Manchester United midfielder now seems to be on the radar of Celtic.
Celtic join race for Manchester United midfielder
According to On The Minute, Celtic have entered the race for Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore, offering the English youth international a potential route into Scottish football.
Southampton, Sheffield United and Swansea City are also keeping an eye on the midfielder. Interest remains exploratory, with Manchester United yet to decide his future.
It is hard to imagine that Manchester United would stand in the way of Gore leaving though. After all, he was playing his football on loan in League One last season and his team got relegated.
Who is Dan Gore?
Gore has made two senior appearances for Manchester United. He came through their youth ranks and has spent three separate spells out on loan.
It was only last season that he started getting consistent chances at the senior level. He was a regular in the middle of the park for Rotherham United, who ended up getting relegated from League One.
Yet, Gore was able to make an impression, which was strong enough to draw the attention of a club like Celtic.
When it comes to style of play, Gore is a dynamic defensive or central midfielder. He is press-resistant and likes to carry the ball up the pitch. Last season, he was in the 95th percentile for both successful dribbles and fouls won.
When it comes to the defensive side of his game, Gore is more than competent as well. He relies more on his reading of the game and acceleration, rather than physical attributes, as he stands at 5'7".
In League One last season, he was in the 91st percentile for interceptions and the 93rd percentile for recoveries.
