It looks like Celtic have already made their second transfer bid looking to sign the 27-year-old player.
Celtic's transfer business finally seems to be starting to pick up some real pace. This should have been the case to begin with, but it is hardly a surprise that the Hoops have allowed things to drag on a bit.
Better than never, as they say. And Celtic fans might find themselves repeating that on multiple occasions over the next few days.
Earlier today, we covered reports coming out of Spain that Celtic had advanced in talks to sign Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo. Now, it looks like they have made a second offer for another player.
Celtic submit second offer for Croatian player
It is pretty much the minimum expectation for Celtic to sign another goalkeeper in this summer transfer window. Kasper Schmeichel has retired, leaving a spot open in the squad.
Some might argue that the club need a starter between the posts. Others may feel that it should be someone who competes with Viljami Sinisalo. Whatever you think, it is quite clear that an addition is required.
According to George Tsarouchas, Las Palmas have now rejected two offers from Celtic for Dinko Horkas and are asking for €7-8 million to sanction a move.
The one major positive for Celtic is that the Croatian goalkeeper has asked permission to negotiate for a transfer this summer. Sevilla are also in the race to sign him.
Dinko Horkas was exceptional last season
Most Celtic fans would have heard about Horkas for the first time when Celtic were linked with the Croatian goalkeeper. But that does not mean that he could not be a solid addition to this team.
Horkas is coming off an excellent season with Las Palmas in La Liga 2. At 27 years of age, this is the right time for him to take the next step. He is entering his prime.
Horkas faced an xGOT of 43.03 and conceded 39 goals last season. Just for context, Sinisalo underperformed in that metric, conceding 15 times with an xGOT of 13.35.
There are several other aspects in which Horkas shines as well. He had a 72.1% save percentage, compared to the 60.5% of Sinisalo.
Horkas is also better with the ball at his feet. He completed more passes than any other goalkeeper in La Liga 2 last season and was in the 91st percentile for chances created. He was also in the 95th percentile when it came to acting as a sweeper.
Also, while average in his own right, he has better numbers when it comes to commanding the box as well.
So, if this all translates to Scottish football, Horkas would be some serious competition for Sinisalo's spot in the starting XI. Of course, that is if Celtic are able to pull off a move in the first place.
