Celtic have turned their attention to signing the 22-year-old Manchester United player this summer.
It is not often that you see Celtic being linked with Manchester United players. But it has happened a few times in recent memory, although neither move did end up materialising.
Tyrell Malacia is one example. The left-back was viewed as a potential cover option for Kieran Tierney but ultimately, he did not end up at Parkhead. Instead, the club signed Marcelo Saracchi, who proved to be excellent.
Altay Bayindir is someone who has seemed to be on Celtic's radar in the past, too. And he is believed to be available this summer as well.
It remains to be seen if the Hoops make a move. Interestingly, it does not look like he is the Manchester United goalkeeper the club are trying to sign this summer.
Celtic looking to sign Manchester United goalkeeper this summer
According to a report from Football Insider, Celtic are interested in making a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Radek Vitek this summer.
Senne Lammens is the number one at Manchester United right now. And the club recently announced the signing of Karl Darlow to add to their depth in options.
That leaves someone like Vitek without a place in Michael Carrick's plans. Of course, he has spent the past several seasons away on loan.
So, the signing of Darlow might open up the door for Vitek to make a permanent move away and it looks like Celtic might be waiting to swoop in if the opportunity presents itself.
Who is Radek Vitek and would he be a good signing?
Vitek is a 22-year-old Czech goalkeeper. He has come through the youth ranks at Manchester United but never made a senior appearance for the club.
That does not mean that he does not have first-team experience at the top level. Far from it. He has almost 100 appearances under his belt from three separate loan spells.
The first one was in League Two with Accrington Stanley. That was followed by a stint in the Austrian Bundesliga with Linz and Vitek spent the previous campaign at Championship side Bristol City.
Vitek's numbers for Bristol City show why Celtic might be interested in signing him. In fact, it goes very well with their strategy of seeking out overperforming goalkeepers not in the top division. Tjark Ernst and Dinko Horkas are perfect examples of this.
Vitek faced an xGOT of 60.70 last season in the Championship and conceded 54 goals. He also made 134 saves, putting him in the 93rd percentile, and with a 71.3% save percentage.
Vitek was also in the 93rd percentile for high claims and the 89th percentile for playing a sweeping goalkeeper.
His distribution lacked efficiency but had volume. Vitek was in the 87th percentile for successful passes and 82nd percentile for accurate long balls.
The only area of concern might be the fact that he made three errors leading to goals. He won't have the luxury of making so many mistakes in a Celtic shirt.
So, would the 22-year-old be able to deal with the pressure that comes with life at Parkhead? Or should the Hoops look for someone with more experience?
