Celtic have been handed a chance to sign the Manchester United player after the Premier League club's announcement.

Celtic are coming off a league and cup double. Yet, it is a summer transfer window in which the Hoops need to strengthen in several positions across the pitch.

One of those areas is between the posts. Kasper Schmeichel has retired and was probably always going to be moving on this summer.

That has left Viljami Sinisalo as the only starting-level goalkeeper. While the Finnish international did an excellent job stepping in for Schmeichel last season, is he the long-term number one.

That is a question we do not know the answer to. What we do know is that he underperformed his xGOT last season.

So, at the very least, Celtic will need to sign at least one quality goalkeeper this summer. Someone who is capable of starting on a consistent basis.

Manchester United announce signing of veteran goalkeeper

Celtic have been linked with quite a few goalkeepers in recent times. Tjark Ernst of Hertha Berlin and Dino Horkas of Las Palmas. But now, they might have the chance to bring in a long-term target.

Manchester United have now officially announced that they have signed 35-year-old goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Darlow is viewed as a cover option. Even last season, he was making starts in the Premier League. But that also opens the door for some of their other goalkeepers to get a move away after struggling for game time.

Celtic fans will be very familiar with one of those names. It is none other than Altay Bayindir, somebody who has been on the Hoops' radar on more than one occasion in the past without the move ever materialising.

Would Bayindir be a good signing for Celtic?

Bayindir has made only 17 appearances for Manchester United, after spending three seasons at the club. So, it is about time that he moves on.

While Celtic might have failed in their attempts to sign him in previous transfer windows, they still do need a goalkeeper. And revisiting that interest might not be a bad idea.

At the end of the day, Bayindir is still just 28 years of age. So, he should still have a lot left in the tank and is very much in his physical prime.

Of course, there is always going to be some level of risk involved in signing a player who has not been a starter in three years. But then again, Bayindir has shown that he is capable of playing that role from his time at Fenerbahce.

In fact, he has even appeared 12 times for the Turkish national team. So, for Bayindir, it might just be about being in a team that will trust him as a starter. And Celtic might very well be that club.
