Martin O'Neill has confirmed some news regarding Celtic that the fans have been waiting for.
There have been very few positives for Celtic this summer, even as teams around them have continued to strengthen. Unfortunately, this has felt like a repeat of a familiar story where the Hoops do not strengthen in time and then end up missing out on Champions League football.
This has happened time and again in the past. In fact, it is hard to remember the last time Celtic managed to make it through the Champions League qualification phase.
The previous three times they were in the competition, it was because they were given an automatic spot due to winning the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic did get their first signing of the summer done recently as Camilo Duran was brought in. And now, Martin O'Neill has confirmed more positive news.
Celtic offer to striker confirmed by O'Neill
It looks like Celtic have made an offer to Kelechi Iheanacho and now the ball is in his court whether he wants to continue at the club or not.
According to the Daily Record, Iheanacho said: "There's an offer there to him at this minute. So we'll see how that develops."
This is in line with recent reports that Iheanacho staying on at Celtic was emerging as the most likely option for the Nigerian striker.
There have been suggestions that he has already turned down offers from both Turkey and Qatar.
Why keeping Iheanacho is vital for Celtic
There is almost an air of a veteran striker and dressing-room leader around Iheanacho. But let's not forget, he is still just 29 years of age and not someone in his mid-30s.
Iheanacho should have a lot of football left in the tank and he has already proven himself in the Scottish game.
Iheanacho did not start a lot of games for Celtic last season but that felt like as much a strategy as it was a necessity due to his fitness issues.
After all, Iheanacho did come off the bench and consistently rescued the team even when he found himself in difficult situations. Those winners were vital in keeping Celtic in the title race.
So, there was no real need for O'Neill to tweak with that. In fact, they found their most success last season when they started Daizen Maeda as the number 9 and then introduced Iheanacho into the game at some point in the second half.
Both of them thrived. And while Maeda seems likely to depart, it appears Iheanacho could be set to stay on at Celtic Park or at the very least has the opportunity to do that.
