Celtic have submitted a bid for the Swiss international, even though there has been no speculation about a move leading up to it.
Celtic are expected to complete multiple transfers before the summer window comes to a close. And to be fair, they seem to be closing in on multiple fronts at the moment, as they are spinning a lot of plates at once.
If there is one thing that Celtic have shown in this summer transfer window, it is that they have the ability to work in silence. Just earlier in the day, it emerged that they had agreed a loan deal for Chelsea striker Shim Mheuka.
Nobody had expected that move. And now, the Hoops have made a very similar attempt to sign another player they have not been linked with at any point in this summer transfer window.
It is a move that might have come up due to necessity though with Alistair Johnston picking up another injury and needing several months out on the sidelines.
Celtic submit bid for Swiss international defender
According to Anthony Joseph, Celtic have made a bid for Feyenoord right-back Jordan Lotomba. He has only one year left on his contract.
Celtic are said to be in the transfer market for a right-back to cover for the injured Johnston before tomorrow's UEFA deadline.
Most would have expected a youngster on loan to fill the void. So, Celtic going for a 27-year-old full Swiss international is certainly a bit of a surprise but a welcome one at that.
Who is Jordan Lotomba?
At the international level, Lotomba has appeared on eight occasions for the Switzerland national team.
Lotomba is also a well-established name in the European club game as well. He came up through the ranks at Lausanne-Sport before establishing himself at BSC Young Boys in Switzerland.
He won the league title on three occasions while at BSC. So, he is someone who can be involved in those kinds of teams that have title ambitions. It helps knowing that ahead of a potential move to Celtic.
That would earn him a move to Ligue 1, where he spent four seasons playing for Nice, making 142 appearances for the French club.
That was followed by a move to Feyenoord. Lotomba has been somewhat less involved for them, making only 40 appearances since his move in 2024.
Now, the time might have come for Lotomba to make another move. Could Celtic Park be his next destination? Time shall tell. But it looks like a move could be on for the Swissman.
