Celtic need to add some quality to their roster over the course of the summer, even though they might have had just enough in the tank to get past Hearts and the Rangers in the league title race. Martin O'Neill's side are also in contention for a double, with the Scottish Cup final against Dunfermline Athletic coming up.

One area where Celtic must improve is up top. Goals have been a problem for the Hoops this season.

Daizen Maeda and Kelechi Iheanacho might have gotten them past the finish line, but over the course of the entire campaign, neither met expectations. That was evident in the output.

Last season, Celtic managed to score 112 goals in the league. That number dropped to 73 this season.

That is a difference of 39 goals. Around 35% less season-to-season. Naturally, that is an area where the Hoops need to improve drastically.

One striker they have been linked with recently is Kasper Hogh. The Bodo/Glimt forward has been one of the standout performers in the Champions League this season.

He scored a brace against Manchester City and also found the back of the net against Atletico Madrid, Sporting CP and Inter Milan. Overall, he had five goals to his name in the competition as Bodo/Glimt had a historically deep run.

Hogh's reputation skyrocketed as a result. Celtic tried to sign him in January and were unsuccessful. Now, they might need to pay even more to get his signature.

According to Football Insider, journalist Pete O'Rourke said: 

“He’s probably a player still on the radar for Celtic, no doubts about that. They looked at a potential deal in January, but couldn’t get near a fee that would see Bodo cash in.

“This summer, it’ll be a real difficult deal to do for Celtic because of the price tag that it will take to prise him away from Bodo.

“You’re probably looking at £10m at least, and whether Celtic can get to those numbers is debatable.”

That kind of a fee would put him in the biggest transfer signings in Celtic history. Arne Engels is the only one who has been signed for a higher figure.

If Celtic are able to sign someone like Hogh, it would have to go down as a statement of intent on the part of the Hoops.

The striker has impressed in the Champions League this season and one would imagine that has caught the eye of plenty of teams across Europe, including many with higher financial resources than Celtic.

So, it remains to be seen if they do end up making that offer in the region of £10 million to try to sign him from Bodo/Glimt.

It is worth mentioning that only three players have left the Norwegian league for transfer fees north of that mark. The highest is John Obi Mikel's move to Chelsea back in the mid-2000s. So, it has been a couple of decades since that record was broken.

The situation might have changed though after Bodo/Glimt's historic success in the Champions League this season and it would not come as a surprise if there are a few players who move in big-money moves this summer. Could Hogh be one of them? And if so, will Celtic be his destination? Only time shall tell.
