The Celtic transfer has collapsed but another arrival has been announced by the club.

Celtic have very little time left to further strengthen their squad this summer, if they have any plans to do that at all.

The club have made quite a few signings even after they were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers. But then, they have not met all of their targets.

The midfield is in particular need of reinforcements. Key players like Arne Engels and Reo Hatate have left.

Celtic have brought in plenty of midfielders this summer? But have they brought in one of similar quality? And amid all this, another deal has collapsed at the last minute.

Celtic deal has collapsed and won't happen this summer

According to CeltsAreHere, Celtic’s transfer pursuit of Gvidas Gineitis has collapsed. There is now no chance of an agreement being reached with Torino.

Martin O’Neill was keen to bring Gineitis to Glasgow. But no personal terms were agreed with the player. And Celtic are not in a position to close the deal.

Even after the failure to qualify for the Champions League, Celtic had continued their pursuit of the Torino midfielder, which had come as a surprise to the fans considering the potential transfer fee that was being touted.

It does not come as a surprise though that Celtic have failed in their quest to sign Gineitis. On the other hand, the arrival of a different midfielder has been announced.

Celtic announce another signing

Last night, Celtic announced the arrival of Joel van den Berg. For a change, this is not a loan signing.

Instead, Celtic have brought him in on a four-year deal, and there is the option for a further year as well.

If he ends up doing well, do not expect the midfielder to be at Parkhead until the end of those terms, that is for sure.

This is another one of Celtic's project signings though. Van den Berg has played only eight senior games of football so far. You cannot expect him to be the replacement for someone like Engels or Hatate.

Also, is he the answer for Celtic's failure to sign Gineitis? Or could Celtic still pull off one last late move in this summer transfer window? It feels very unlikely with the amount of time left. But never say never.
