Celtic need to strengthen their forward ranks this summer and a Scottish striker with 18 goals this season is on their radar.
Signing a striker or two has to be near the top of Celtic's wishlist in the upcoming summer transfer window. Daizen Maeda and Kelechi Iheanacho are the only two forwards who look capable of finding the back of the net right now. And both of their futures at Parkhead are up in the air.
Maeda could leave, having been close to an exit last summer as well. On the other hand, there is an option to extend Iheanacho's contract by another year. Yes, he has been excellent off the bench. But handing an extension to somebody with his injury record would be a risk for sure.
Then there are the two loanees, Tomas Cvancara and Junior Adamu. It would be safe to assume that Celtic are not going to pick up the option to buy in either loan deal and they will return to their parent clubs at the end of the campaign.
There are a lot of expectations surrounding Callum Osmand as well. Let's see how he looks upon his return from a long-term injury that early in his career.
All things considered, Celtic need to add more quality up top. And it looks like a 22-year-old Scottish striker is on their radar.
According to Football Insider, Celtic are “keeping tabs” on Falkirk striker Barney Stewart. The Hoops have him on their radar as an option to bolster the forward line this summer.
Stewart has impressed this season. He spent the first half of the campaign out on loan at Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic. He scored 8 goals in 12 appearances for them.
That was enough to convince Falkirk to recall him in the middle of the season and that has proven to be the right decision.
Stewart has scored 10 goals in 20 games for Falkirk since his return. And he has taken to the Premiership level like a duck to water.
His form has caught the eye of Celtic. But if the club do end up signing him, it would have to be as a backup option. There is no way that they would be viewing Stewart as someone who could come in and lead the line from next season. A more established striker needs to be brought in to fill that role.
Also, if Celtic do sign Stewart, it might also mean the end of the road for Johnny Kenny at the club, as the Irishman is currently out on loan in the English League One with Bolton Wanderers and doing well.
