It looks like Celtic are interested in the German midfielder but it could take an offer north of €13 million to sign him,

Celtic will be looking to strengthen their squad all across the board this summer. That being said, if there is one position that could find itself in particular need of strengthening, it is their midfield.

Celtic's midfield department is arguably their strongest area. That being said, at the moment, it feels like all of their key midfielders are being linked with moves away from Parkhead.

Callum McGregor barely featured in the home kit launch video and has been linked with a move to Al-Qadsiah to reunite with former boss Brendan Rodgers.

Arne Engels' exit is already planned, according to some reports, with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Nottingham Forest and several other teams across top five European leagues believed to hold an interest in the Belgian international.

Benjamin Nygren has also been linked with some top clubs and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed there is interest in him going into the summer.

Reo Hatate has not featured much lately, only playing 17 minutes of football over the past five games, and an exit in the summer seems inevitable for the Japanese international.

The same can be said of Paulo Bernardo, who will surely look for more game time. Of course, a lot could depend on who the next manager is and what his plans are.

That being said, other than Luke McCowan, it looks like pretty much the entire Celtic midfield could be away in the summer. One would hope that the club try to prevent that from happening and try to maintain some stability in the middle of the park even though the need for a roster revamp is clear as well.

On the other hand, when it comes to signing players of their own, it looks like a highly-rated German midfielder is on Celtic's radar.

According to Sky Germany (via FootballTransfers), Brentford, Celtic and Sunderland are interested in Soufiane El-Faouzi. Some suitors are said to be ready to pay up to €13 million for him.

El-Faouzi is a box-to-box midfielder who has played a key role in Schalke earning promotion to the Bundesliga this season.

He has scored a couple of goals and provided five assists. But at the same time, his real strengths lie on the defensive side of the game.

Of course, signing El-Faouzi would not be easy. But we do know that Celtic have been keeping a close on German football in recent years.

They signed Engels from Augsburg, Tomas Cvancara from Borussia Monchengladbach and Junior Adamu from SC Freiburg. Could El-Faouzi's name be added to that list this summer?
