The Sky Sport reporter has confirmed that the key Celtic player's departure this summer is already planned.

The big focus for Celtic going into this summer transfer window has to be to add as much quality as possible to this current squad, which is nowhere near the mark. Just look at how drastically things have changed within a short span of time.

Nobody is going to claim that Brendan Rodgers' Celtic side was the most entertaining to watch. But even then, they did score 112 goals in the league this season. On the other hand, the Hoops have found the back of the net just 64 times in the current campaign with just three games left in the Premiership.

Defensively, things have not been any better either. They have already conceded 37 times in 35 league games this season, compared to 26 goals in the 24/25 league campaign.

In terms of points, Celtic managed to pick up 92 last season. This time around, even if they win their remaining three games, which is questionable, they can only have a maximum of 82 points.

So, the need for improvement is quite evident. But unfortunately, the club's best players continue to be linked with moves away.

It is the midfield which could end up most depleted over the summer transfer window. The lack of Callum McGregor in the promotional stuff for the new kit release has been evident amid rumours of a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Al-Qadsiah. But he is not the only high-profile name who could be on the way out.

According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, Arne Engels is one to watch for the summer transfer window. A departure from Celtic is planned.

The Belgian international remains on RB Leipzig’s list. The German club are closely monitoring him. But there are also clubs from the Premier League, Serie A and La Liga who are keen on the midfielder.

So, while Engels has not always gotten the plaudits from Celtic fans, it looks like he is highly regarded in footballing circles across Europe. And a move away from Parkhead could be in the works this summer.

Celtic already received an offer north of £20 million in the winter. But they turned it down. If a similar or an even bigger bid comes in the summer, that might be enough to change the mind of the club though.

At the end of the day, Engels is not someone who scores a ton of goals or provides many assists. And the club might fancy their chances of being able to replace him at a fraction of the transfer fee they are going to bring in, if they part ways.
