Celtic are most likely going to be looking for a new long-term manager this summer. Martin O'Neill's current deal as interim boss comes to an end with this season.

Of course, there are those who have been pushing for him to continue. But at the end of the day, this might be the perfect time to part ways.

O'Neill is 74 years of age and has mentioned on more than one occasion that these games take a toll on him these days.

Also, he simply is not going to get a better ending than this. The club hero who returned for one last run and saved Celtic from what had looked like a certain trophyless campaign, and guided them to the league title.

O'Neill has achieved so much as Celtic manager but in the eyes of many, this league title triumph was the sweetest. Also, the Hoops will be taking on Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final.

That could very well be O'Neill's last game as a manager. And to be honest, it does not get better than this. It feels like the right time to walk away, on top of the world.

As for Celtic's next managerial search, it is not going to be easy to replace O'Neil, that is for sure.

The manager has done a phenomenal job, getting the most out of what is a weak Celtic squad, further weakened by injuries.

On the other hand, the managers Celtic have been linked with all seem to be getting out of reach slowly as well. Toulouse have made contact, looking to sign Jens Berthel Askou of Motherwell. On the other hand, it looks like Steve Clarke could be set to stay on as Scotland boss for two more years.

According to The Times, Clarke is close to agreeing a new Scotland contract. The manager is set to stay on until Euro 2028.

Initially, the expectation had been that he would leave after this World Cup, becoming a free agent. But now, it looks like he is set to continue in his role as the national team boss. It is not hard to understand why. After guiding Scotland to the last two EUROs, he has helped them qualify for the World Cup, their first one since 1998.

A lot of people do not like the style of football Clarke's side plays. But nobody can question the historic results they have been producing.

As for Celtic, this further reduces their potential options. Now, the only two names that come to mind are Robbie Keane and Roberto Martinez, if he leaves the Portugal job after this World Cup.

But will Celtic wait until then to make a managerial pick? Or will they try to bring in someone before the World Cup?
