A large part of Celtic's strategy this summer should revolve around signing quality players. Those who can walk straight into the starting XI and improve. That being said, depth is very important as well.

Celtic will have learned that this season, with so many key players out injured. It is no wonder that their performances were not up to their own standards as a result of those absences. Any other team would have struggled as well.

But ultimately, they had just enough depth in their ranks to get through the finish line in the title race. So, the Hoops need to make sure that they keep their rotational players around as well.

One player who had a standout performance off the bench in the decisive game against Hearts on the final day of the league season is Marcelo Saracchi.

The Uruguayan international is only on loan for the season from Boca Juniors, But it looks like Celtic will make their move, especially as it is abundantly clear by now that a move for Andrew Robertson is not on the cards.

According to TyC Sports, Celtic will try to sign Saracchi. It appears his stay will be permanent. Boca Juniors are now waiting for a formal offer to convince the Uruguayan full-back to stay in Scotland. As for figures, nothing is known yet.

To be honest, it would make a ton of sense for Celtic to sign Saracchi on a permanent basis this summer.

Considering the injury record that Kieran Tierney has, the club will need to sign someone reliable as a backup option. That is just the reality of the situation.

Saracchi is shown to be someone who is not only good enough to be a cover option for Tierney but might even be the better starting option, depending on who you ask.

It is unlikely that he will be a starter ahead of Tierney even if he stays, but one would imagine that Saracchi should be in line for a decent bit of playing time, whoever the next manager of the club turns out to be, with Martin O'Neill expected to step down.

This is a move that Celtic should get over the line as soon as possible. Considering he has remained a backup option, one would imagine that Boca Juniors won't be demanding too big of a transfer fee.

The only problem is if another club come calling and offer Saracchi a starting role. That could turn his head, having played a backup role the entire season.
