There is just one more game left for Celtic to play this season. Despite how underwhelming they have been over the course of the campaign, they remain in contention for a double. They secured the league title at the weekend in a thrilling win over Hearts on the final matchday. And now, they will take on Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final.

While it has not been ruled out completely yet, it is unlikely that Martin O'Neill will continue on as Celtic manager beyond this season.

He has mentioned time and again how the games do take a toll on him. And at 74 years of age, he has earned himself a rest. While the majority of the fanbase would like to see him continue, there is a recognition that it might be the right time to part ways, on the highest note possible.

Of course, replacing O'Neill won't be an easy task. Celtic tried once earlier this season, bringing in Wilfried Nancy, and we all know how that turned out for them.

The club will need to do a lot better this time around. They need to bring in someone who has not only shown that he is capable of winning but also has an understanding of the expectations that come with the Celtic job.

It is the latter that Nancy never seemed to appreciate enough. He continued to talk about needing time and the performances. But when you are the Celtic manager, you will always be judged by the results, first and foremost. The Frenchman lasted just 33 days in the job before being sacked.

Jens Berthel Askou has been linked with the job heavily following his immense season managing Motherwell. They were arguably the best footballing side in the league. But it has been suggested that one name is ahead of him in the race for the Celtic job.

According to 67 Hail Hail, Ronnie Charters said on the STV Radio Football Show:

“If you asked me to put my mortgage on it right now, and I had to pick someone, I’d think that Robbie Keane is in line ahead of Jens."

Obviously, Keane is another manager that has been constantly linked with the Celtic job. And to be honest, it is not hard to see why. He ticks a lot of the boxes that the club will be looking for when it comes to appointing their next manager.

Keane has proven himself to be a winner as a manager. He has won a couple of trophies with his current side, Ferencvaros, including the league. Before that, he also had two titles to his name as Maccabi Tel Aviv boss.

On top of that, Keane has played for Celtic, albeit only on loan. So, he will know what it takes to succeed in a job of this magnitude and what the expectations are at Parkhead.

The same might not be true for Askou, who has excelled at Motherwell but that is no guarantee that he will adjust to the jump that comes with moving to Celtic.
