The main aim for Celtic this summer has to be strengthening the squad. Of course, they cannot repeat the mistake of this season and miss out on Champions League football again due to not signing enough players before the qualifiers.

On the other hand, there is a general need to bring in more talent. This has been Celtic's worst performance since the 20/21 campaign. And no, that is not overstating the issue.

Celtic managed 82 points this season. In 20/21, they had 77 points. So, they have not been significantly better. The league title has come as a result of the Rangers underperforming despite spending heavily in the summer transfer window.

Coming back to the matter at hand, Celtic need to strengthen all over the pitch. But in order to fund that, they might need to let a few players go first.

Maik Nawrocki is one player who is in a prime position to depart the club this summer. He spent the season out on loan at German second division side Hannover 96.

Hannover are believed to hold a £2 million option to buy included in the loan deal. But they might not be able to meet that figure to bring in Nawrocki after missing out on promotion.

Despite that, it looks like the club plans to hold talks and check if something can be agreed upon.

According to The Herald, Hannover 96's sports director Ralf Becker said:

"All of our loan players will return now to their parent clubs.

"We will also hold talks with the loaned players and their clubs, so that staying on may be possible in individual cases.

"Of course, the disappointment is still lingering for all of us. Nevertheless, it was important for us to close the season off and say our farewells to the players for now."

As for Nawrocki, he has sounded open to all possibilities in the past, keeping all doors open. He had said last month regarding his position:

"I could stay here, go back to Celtic or maybe go somewhere completely different."

It would be safe to say that Nawrocki has done well during his time at Hannover and caught a lot of eyes, even though he might not have been able to guide them to promotion.

It is possible that other clubs could come calling for his signture in the summer transfer window. So, Hannover might not be the only option for him this summer. In fact, it is quite likely that it is not going to be.

That being said, it is also possible that Nawrocki might have a future at Celtic. He did impress in the few appearances that he made last season but never got a proper run in the team under Brendan Rodgers, a manager who does like to stick to his first-choice options for the most part.

A different manager is going to come in this summer. And they might have a different idea about Nawrocki, and might view him as someone capable of contributing to the team.
