It looks like Celtic are closing in on what could be their third signing of the week.
Celtic have suddenly picked up the pace in the ongoing summer transfer window. To be honest, not many would have seen this coming, but it has been a welcome surprise to say the least.
Celtic announced the signing of Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo yesterday. The Egyptian winger was a standout at the World Cup and it is believed to have taken a transfer package of £9 million to pull off the signing.
Today, the Hoops went a step further. They officially completed the signing of Mika Baur from SC Paderborn for a £4.5 million initial fee plus a further £2.3 million in add-ons.
Those are significant figures for Celtic, especially in a summer in which they have already signed Kasper Hogh and Camilo Duran for a combined £17 million.
So, the club deserve some credit. But more is needed. And it looks like a loan move might be the next step for
Celtic close to signing Chelsea player
According to Simon Johnson, Chelsea's Landon Emenalo is close to joining Celtic on a season-long loan deal.
It’s not done yet and there is interest from multiple clubs across many leagues in England and abroad. Celtic are the favourites though.
It was only last night that Emenalo's name first cropped up in the Celtic rumour mill. But already, it looks like the situation is quite advanced.
Of course, it is not over the line just yet. But judging from the reporting regarding the situation over the past 24 hours, it might only be a matter of time before it is.
Is Emenalo the right signing for Celtic?
This one is very difficult to predict, to be honest. On one hand, the idea of signing an 18-year-old with zero competitive appearances at the senior level will not fill the fans with confidence.
On the other hand, you can see the talent in Emenalo to be a success at Celtic. He has been impressive in pre-season for Chelsea this summer, which might be why they decided that it was time for him to go out and get some senior level experience.
The bigger problem with the move might be the fact that there is little chance of Emenalo having a long-term future at Celtic. He will be at Parkhead on loan for a season and then go back to Chelsea.
So, Celtic really have not solved their need for a backup. They have just brought in a short-term fix at best.
Also, one cannot rule out the possibility that it does not work out at all for Emenalo. The youngster might struggle to find his feet at the senior level early on. And Celtic is not a club where you get time.
