It would be safe to say that Celtic find themselves staring at a bit of an uncertain future, despite just winning the double just days ago. Who will be the next manager of the club? That remains unclear.

Martin O'Neill has always been expected to leave at the end of the season. But he did not close the door on continuing in his role in the next campaign as well.

It is unclear whether he will be handed that opportunity or not. But it does look like the club are certain about one thing.

According to the Daily Record, the Celtic hierarchy is keen for O'Neill to remain at the club. It is still not clear whether that would be as the head coach or in a different role.

But it is not just O'Neill that Celtic seem to have been impressed by over the course of the campaign.

The same report goes on to state that Shaun Maloney is under serious consideration for a sporting director role.

Of course, Maloney has been an integral part of O'Neill's coaching staff. But at the same time, he is believed to have been helping the club in other capacities as well.

It has always been expected that he would be in line for some behind-the-scenes role at the end of the run.

But if the run has not ended and O'Neill ends up carrying on. Would that see Maloney continue on as part of his coaching team? Or would he end up taking a sporting director role? And if he did, what kind of an impact would it have on things?

There are a lot of ifs, buts and maybes that will need to fall into place if that situation is to materialise in real life. So, there is little point in losing sleep over it. We will come to that point when we do.

As for Celtic, the most important thing right now has to be to find the next manager, or stick with the current one, back him in the summer transfer window and improve the squad for a change.

Obviously, let's not forget that other managers have been linked with the Celtic job lately as well. But Jens Berthel Askou has already left to join Toulouse in the French top flight. That leaves the Hoops will very few options to choose from.

Robbie Keane is believed to be one of them. He has quit his job at Ferencvaros, So he is available as a free agent, and Celtic could do much worse than him.
