The player has completed his medical ahead of a move to Celtic late in this summer transfer window.

With Celtic crashing out of the Champions League qualifiers, owing to a 5-1 second leg defeat at the hands of LASK, it looks like the club have had to completely change their transfer plans.

The club were linked with players like Niko Sigur, Gvidas Gineitis and Ermin Mahmic going into that second leg against LASK.

Coming out of it, those rumours have completely evaporated into nothing. Instead, it looks like Celtic have shifted their targets completely.

Firstly, it emerged that they had agreed a deal to sign Joel van den Berg from PSV. And now, they have signed another midfielder out of nowhere.

Celtic medical completed ahead of move

According to Anthony Joseph, Parma midfielder Oliver Sorensen has completed a medical in London ahead of his move to Celtic.

It’s understood that the 24-year-old has now arrived in Glasgow to finalise the paperwork on his season-long loan deal, with Celtic having the option to buy.

To be honest, most Celtic fans would have learned about the club's interest in Sorensen today. And a move is now already over the line.

Interestingly, it is only a loan move. Another sign of the impact that the failure to qualify for the Champions League has had on the club.

Who is Oliver Sorensen?

Sorensen was a standout at Midtjylland but was not exactly able to find his best form at Parma last season.

He is viewed as someone who can be the replacement for Arne Engels, who was a nailed-on starter for Celtic before leaving to join West Ham United in a Championship record transfer move.

To be very honest, when it was suggested that Van den Berg could be Engels' replacement, it was a cause for concern. The youngster has only played eight senior games of football so far. That would have been a big ask.

Someone like Sorensen might be more ready for that role. Now, it remains to be seen how he does in Celtic colours.

If the loan spell goes well, perhaps Celtic can end up signing him on a permanent basis at the end of the season. We have seen them adopt that strategy with quite a few players in the past.

That is how they signed Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur, and both Jota and Paulo Bernardo from Benfica.

One can only hope that Sorensen goes on to enjoy similar success at Celtic. The club certainly need a quality midfielder right now.

At times, it does look like they are outrun in the middle of the park. The likes of Callum McGregor and Benjamin Nygren are automatic starters. But Sorensen could prove to be the missing piece of the puzzle.
