Celtic have agreed the first transfer deal of the Martin O'Neill era, as they head towards a busy summer.

Celtic have selected their next manager. Martin O'Neill is taking the job permanently from next season. Now, it is about giving him the proper backing.

Celtic's transfer activity in recent times has been nowhere near the mark. It is remarkable that O'Neill was able to get a double out of this squad. But the same cannot be expected every season.

One of the reasons Celtic struggled so badly this season is that they were not able to add genuine quality to the squad last summer.

In fact, their transfer strategy was confusing. And it felt like several players were brought in who were never going to make their mark.

One such player was Hayato Inamura. That is a name that a lot of fans might have already forgotten about. That was the extent of his involvement last season.

He was signed from a Japanese club called Albirex and it had looked like the initial plan was to send him out on loan. But he made a couple of impressive displays in pre-season and was kept at Parkhead.

That was the wrong move. The chances never came when the competitive season started. Eventually, Inamura was sent out on loan to FC Tokyo in the winter window. And now, it looks like that is where he is moving on a permanent basis.

According to Kazu Kakiuchi, FC Tokyo has finalised the permanent transfer of Inamura from Celtic.

An agreement has already been reached between the clubs. The transfer fee is estimated at €1.5 million. The deal is done.

This seems like the right step for all parties involved. It just never looked like Inamura was going to get too many chances to show what he is capable of at Celtic Park.

He simply was not ready for the move. It was just the club trying to recreate the magic of the 21/22 season. The issue is that they no longer have Ange Postecoglou's knowledge of the Asian talent pool and eye for talent to rely on.

We can only wish Inamura the best of luck in his next step and hope that he goes on to have a great career from here.

As for Celtic, one would hope that they are a lot more efficient with their transfer activity this summer and sign players who are ready to come in and make an immediate impact.

Otherwise, it would not make much sense to even make any further additions because it is not options they lack, it is quality.
