Celtic have been given the green light to make a move for the defender they have already made a £3.5 million transfer bid for.

It does look like Celtic want to sign a centre-back this summer. Their defence took a step back in the 25/26 campaign. They conceded 41 goals in the league, compared to 26 in the previous campaign. A significant jump of more than 50%.

Cameron Carter-Vickers' long-term injury surely had something to do with that. But considering the number of fitness issues he has had to deal with over his five years at Celtic, it is unlikely we will ever see him back to his best again.

Even if he does, Celtic still need to add another option in the heart of their defence. The previous two seasons, they filled the gap by bringing in youngsters on loan, and then not giving them enough playing time.

Anyways, it looks like Celtic will have a chance to sign a Polish centre-back who they already reportedly put in a bid for in the winter transfer window.

Celtic Handed Chance to Sign Winter Centre-Back Target

The player in question is none other than Oskar Wojcik. He is a full Polish international, currently playing for Cracovia.

He has spent his entire career so far playing in Poland. But at 22 years of age, he might be ready to take the next step forward.

Fortunately, it looks like his club are open to that prospect as well. According to Meczyki, Cracovia vice president Murat Colak said while speaking in an interview with Weszło:

"Wójcik is a great player for us, and we support him very much. I won't deny that there's a lot of interest in him. He's a player with enormous potential. He's in his prime. We've already had some very good offers for him in the winter. We want to be fair to him. If a great offer comes in, one that's good for both the club and Oskar, we'll certainly consider it."

Interestingly, reports have also suggested that Celtic put in a bid in the region of £3.5 million for Wojcik in the winter transfer window. Could that be what the club's vice-president is referring to when he mentions 'very good offers'?

Would Wojcik be a Good Signing for Celtic?

It is almost impossible to predict how things will turn out for a player when they make the jump to Celtic.

They can be great talents. But not everybody is ready to deal with the pressure that comes with life at Celtic Park.

You can be having a good run of form, but a bad game or two and you could end up losing your place in the starting XI and never getting it back.

Not every player has that kind of consistency. And not everybody might even be willing to deal with that constant pressure of performing game in and game out.

If Celtic do end up signing Wojcik, he would not be the first highly-rated young Polish centre-back they have signed in recent years. Maik Nawrocki fits that description as well and he never really was able to establish himself at Parkhead, although many believe that he should have been given more chances than he got, especially after impressing.
