Fabrizio Romano has confirmed some news that will have an impact on Celtic as well.

This summer transfer window should be about Celtic strengthening their squad after an underwhelming season. But on the contrary, it feels like the bigger stories surrounding Parkhead will be about potential exits.

There are a lot of key players who could be on their way out. To be fair, Daizen Maeda, who scored for Japan last night at the World Cup, has seemed to make a U-turn and open the door to continuing at Celtic.

But on the other hand, there are other players who could be on their way out. In fact, one became more likely after a big-money Premier League transfer move was agreed.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Elliot Anderson is going to Manchester City. He has given the move his famous 'here we go' seal of approval. The deal is in place between the two clubs over a fee worth £116 million.

Why Elliot Anderson's move to Manchester City impacts Celtic

Football is a game of dominoes. And Nottingham Forest could be looking towards a Celtic player to replace the outgoing Anderson.

It was reported by Sacha Tavolieri last week that Nottingham Forest see Arne Engels as the ideal profile to replace Anderson.

In fact, Nottingham Forest made a bid in the region of £25 million in January to try and sign Engels.

Now, with a £116 million transfer fee coming in, they should not have much of a problem increasing that offer further in order to convince Celtic to part ways with the Belgian midfielder.

A lot of Celtic fans were not impressed when the club signed Engels for a club-record £11 million-plus transfer fee. The general view was that he did not do enough to justify that outlay.

Well, a couple of years down the line, it looks like the Celtic recruitment team got it right. The Hoops might be about to bring in multiple times of what they paid for their club-record signing.

Arne Engels exit could be on the cards this summer

Obviously, under ideal circumstances, you would not want to see the club part ways with someone like Engels. It still feels like he has only scratched the surface in a Celtic jersey.

The club signed him in the summer of 2024. He spent much of the first season finding his feet at Parkhead.

Engels came into his own last season. But he did spend a large portion of the season out injured.

When he did return, Engels did have an impact on the team's ability to win games. In fact, following his comeback to fitness, they won eight on the trot, helping seal the domestic league and cup double in the process.

You do not want to see a player of that calibre leave. But unfortunately, it is starting to feel a bit inevitable, whether it is Nottingham Forest or some other club he ends up joining.
