Celtic have been handed a transfer boost by the Premier League player, who seems ready to move this summer.

With the start of the new season inching closer, it would be safe to say that Celtic have left themselves with a lot of work to do. And unfortunately, it is not for the first time.

We have witnessed a similar story unfold year after year. So much so that the supporters seem to have grown frustrated and made that known by the sparse attendance at Parkhead for the pre-season friendly against Middlesbrough.

Of course, many might claim it was just a pre-season friendly. But just look at the attendance for last year's game against Newcastle United. The world surely has not changed so much since then.

Now, it is up to the club to show that they are serious about the situation and make some quality signings. And one of their reported targets has opened the door to a summer exit.

Celtic target confirms he is ready for summer move

One of the areas where Celtic will be looking to bring in reinforcements this summer is between the posts, following the exit of Kasper Schmeichel, who announced his retirement following an injury.

Celtic have been linked with quite a few goalkeepers over the past few weeks. One of them is Radek Vitek of Manchester United.

The player himself has opened the door to a summer move. As posted by the Stretford Paddock, Vitek said:

“At the moment, I am still here, but we will see. I hope so. I hope so, that there will be some interest.

“Yeah, I think you will know when things are more concrete."

When asked whether he would like a loan or a permanent move, Vitek replied:

"I am ready for both, to be fair. It depends on what the club wants, and also depends on the options. We will see."

Vitek has the attributes to be Celtic's answer in goal

So, Vitek sounds like someone who is hoping to get a move away from Manchester United and join a club where he will get regular football.

Celtic might be that kind of club. Viljami Sinisalo deserves credit for the job that he did when he took over the first-team gloves from Schmeichel.

That being said, some of the underlying numbers were not as impressive. The Celtic goalkeeper actually underperformed his xGOT and had only a 60.5% save percentage, which is not good by any stretch of the imagination.

Just for context, Vitek spent last season on loan at Bristol City in the Championship. He was a regular starter for them and outperformed his xGOT by more than six goals. He also had a save percentage of 71.3%.

Vitek also showed that he is a commanding presence in the box while also seeming comfortable with the ball at his feet, a combination that should appeal to Celtic.

It remains to be seen if Celtic will end up making a move for Vitek or not. He is not the only goalkeeper they have been linked with. But the player himself seems ready to move.
