Martin O'Neill is prepared to make a key change for Celtic in the game against Motherwell this weekend.

Just like that, the international break is over. And now, Celtic should be looking to bounce back when they return to action this weekend against Motherwell.

This is a chance for Celtic to turn things around, having gone into the back of a three-game losing streak. They had lost two Glasgow derbies against the Rangers, with a defeat at the hands of Ferencvaros in their Europa League opener sandwiched in between.

That is far from what you would expect from Celtic, no matter who the opposition. Naturally, there are a lot of fans unsure whether Martin O'Neill is the right man to take this team forward.

An away game against Motherwell promises to be a tricky test. But Celtic must win. Hopefully, the international break came at the right time for them and they looked like a changed side coming out of it.

Speaking of changes, it looks like O'Neill is prepared to make one from their previous outing against the Rangers.

Martin O'Neill ready to make change against Motherwell

According to Football Insider, Celtic are likely to revert to a back four against Motherwell this weekend. O'Neil had gone with a back three against the Rangers but that was merely a ploy to try and match up with their Glasgow rivals' shape.

As we know, it did not exactly produce the result that O'Neill would have been hoping for. Celtic ended up losing the derby.

Celtic cannot afford to dwell on those previous results any longer though. They got enough time to do so during the international break.

Hopefully, they were able to identify their mistakes over those three weeks and will now return to action with an adjusted strategy to deal with things that have been going wrong.

Celtic need to shake things up moving forward

Plenty of things have gone wrong for Celtic in recent times. But at the end of the day, it might all come down to a lack of confidence.

The team's confidence was definitely dented when they lost 5-1 to LASK and were knocked out of the Champions League qualifier play-off round.

Up until that game, Celtic had actually looked like a refreshed unit this season and were doing a lot of positive things. But they've never looked the same since then.

Obviously, reverting to a back four is not going to be a magical solution for Celtic. The problems lie deeper. Do the team need clearer tactical instructions, as Cameron Carter-Vickers seemingly suggested after the derby? Or do they not have a good enough side in the first place?
