The dust had not even settled on Kelechi Iheanacho's exit and another piece of bad news has been confirmed for Celtic.
News broke yesterday that Kelechi Iheanacho won't be returning to Celtic and has chosen a move to Turkey instead. That comes as a blow, especially after Martin O'Neill had openly admitted that he would like to see the Nigerian striker back at Parkhead.
This has raised serious questions about Celtic's inability to get deals done and back their managers. They did the same thing with Brendan Rodgers last summer. Now, it is being repeated with O'Neill in charge.
Unfortunately, before the dust had even settled on Ihenacho's exit, another fan favourite has publicly confirmed his exit.
Celtic handed second blow less than 24 hours after Kelechi Iheanacho move
The second player who won't be returning to Celtic, despite enjoying a very good 25/26 campaign, is Marcelo Saracchi.
Saracchi has now posted a goodbye message on his Instagram addressed to the Celtic fans. He wrote:
"Dear Celtic fans,
"I'm writing this to say goodbye. We had an intense, beautiful year together where we achieved so many of our goals.
"My agent and I did absolutely everything within our power to make a return to Glasgow happen. I'm truly gutted that I won't be able to continue at the club at this stage of my career.
"However, I know our paths will cross again in the future.
"I wish you all nothing but the best for what's ahead. Thank you for everything."
So, the door is now closed on Saracchi's return as well. He had spent the previous season on loan from Boca Juniors.
Even though Kieran Tierney was the starter, Saracchi was excellent whenever given a chance. And most fans wanted to see him signed on a permanent basis.
Once again, though, Celtic have failed to deliver on expectations. And right now, it is hard to find any sort of positivity about the club and where things are headed next season.
Despite their terrible campaign, the Rangers are spending heavily once again this summer. On the other hand, it looks like Celtic have found a way to weaken their already poor squad.
Out of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Iheanacho, and Saracchi, the former Arsenal man is the one the fans would have been most comfortable with exiting. Yet, he is the only one the club have agreed an extension with.
Failing to sign Saracchi is worrying
It has been clear for a long time that Boca Juniors of Argentina are ready to part ways with Saracchi this summer.
Also, the player himself has now confirmed that he was keen on a return to Celtic this summer as well.
So, the onus of not making a move happen has to fall on Celtic. On paper, this should not have been a difficult transfer to pull off.
Why have they chosen not to bring back an experienced and Premiership-proven player, for what likely would have been a bargain transfer fee?
That is a thought that must be worrying Celtic fans right now. And considering how things have looked so far, it is hard to expect that there are going to be many quality additions to O'Neill's squad this summer. Once again, the Hoops might not even meet minimum expectations.
