UEFA have made an official announcement regarding the upcoming game between Celtic and Celta Vigo.

Having lost their opening two games of the Europa League group phase, against Ferencvaros and Benfica, Celtic know that they need to get a result when they welcome Celta Vigo to Parkhead on Thursday night.

Mathematically, qualification to the next round is possible no matter what happens against Celta Vigo. But realistically, Celtic would have an almost impossible mountain to climb if they ended up losing their opening three games of the Europa League campaign.

Interestingly, Celta Vigo come into this game in the exact same position. They have lost their first two games in the Europa League as well.

That means that both teams are expected to go for a win at Celtic Park. Obviously, that sets up a nervy contest for both sets of fans and potentially an enjoyable watch for the neutrals.

UEFA make Celtic vs Celta Vigo announcement

UEFA have confirmed the officials who will be in charge of the upcoming game between Celtic and Celta Vigo in the Europa League.

Georgi Kabakov will referee the match at Celtic Park on Thursday. He will be assisted by Martin Margaritov and Martin Venev.

Sören Storks has been named on VAR duty and he will be assisted by Robert Schröder. Nikola Popov has been named the fourth official.

As always, both sets of supporters will be hoping for a game in which there is no controversy around the refereeing decisions and they do not end up having a defining impact on the result of the game.

Celtic need to be smart against Celta Vigo

It will be very interesting to see how Celtic go about trying to get a result against Celta Vigo. Hopefully, the Hoops have taken a few lessons from their previous defeats at the hands of Ferencvaros and Benfica.

That second half in particular against Benfica might have provided Martin O'Neill with the blueprint to get results moving forward.

Celtic looked a lot better with a trio of Camilo Duran, Callum Osmand and Haissem Hassan up top.

Kasper Hogh might have become the club's all-time record signing in the summer but he has not been able to meet even the minimum expectations so far. Continuing to start him as the number 9, merely because of the price tag, is a mistake that O'Neill cannot repeat again.

At the same time, Sebastian Tounekti is another player who has not been able to produce consistent performances in a long time. Osmand, on the other hand, felt like a breath of fresh air against Benfica and followed that up with a brace against Hearts. He should start based on merit, if fit.
