Celtic won 3-1 to keep their title hopes alive as the Rangers found themselves on the losing end once again.

Coming into the Glasgow Derby, we had underlined the importance of Daizen Maeda and why his fitness was a major boost for Celtic. Today, he showed us why with a match-winning brace.

With Celtic going down so early, it had looked like the script had gone all wrong for Martin O'Neill's side. But Yang Hyun-jun drew them level in the first half.

In the second half, it was the Daizen Maeda show. He had already missed one big chance in the game but he made amends and how!

The first was an instinctive striker's finish as he made the most of a low cross to make it to 2-1 to Celtic. His second was one for the ages.

Sebastian Tounekti put a ball into the box that was not cleared well and fell at the feet of Maeda. It bounced up with his first touch and then a split second of football magic, the Japanese forward struck a bicycle kick that will live forever.

It was an unsavable effort from Maeda. Probably the goal of the season. And definitely one of the greatest goals in the history of the Glasgow Derby.

And when you think of the impact it could have on the title race, it could have even greater significance. Celtic are now just a point behind Hearts and the goal difference stands at three, no longer insurmountable.

For Celtic, the aim should be clear. Win the next two. If they do that, they are guaranteed to be champions.

The picture is much bleaker if you are the Rangers, who are going to finish trophyless once again.

As one of their fans wrote: "The sooner the likes of Tav are a distant memory the better. He is without doubt the worst Rangers captain of all time. Rohl cannot start next season as Rangers manager either."

Another said: "Rohl needs to go and clear a dozen players out with him."

So, their fans are hoping for pretty much a complete rebuild less than a year spending around £40 million in improving the squad.

That is pretty much the season over for the Rangers. The last thing they had to play for was to try and stop Celtic from winning. They failed to do that. As one of their fans wrote: "Season over. Won't be wasting anymore time watching the final two games. Some big decisions to be taken and glaring issues to fix this summer."

As for Celtic, the picture looks a bit brighter. Yes, the Hoops do need a rebuild this summer as well. But somehow, they are still in contention to win a double.

The league title race is very much on. But up next for them is an away trip to Motherwell, which is expected to be a tougher test than today. Then, if they can win that, a lot will ride on the final game of the season, against Hearts.

In the Scottish Cup final, they will be taking on Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic. O'Neill will surely want to end his career with some silverware.
