Rangers manager, Derek McInnes, has been slammed by the Celtic hero regarding his complaints about last season's title race.
It would be an understatement to say that Derek McInnes is still not happy about how the 25/26 Scottish Premiership title race turned out.
Against all odds and expectations, he had Hearts in the leading going into the final matchday of the season.
But then, his team could not get the job done, losing to Celtic on the final day of the league season, and getting overtaken as a result. It was heartbreak for Hearts, with many of their supporters viewing it as an 'injustice'. McInnes has seemed very much in that camp.
Derek McInnes slammed by Celtic hero
As reported by Celts Are Here, Aiden McGeady said while speaking on the Go Radio Football Show: “The injustice has been mentioned a few times. What was the injustice? Was it a few contentious decisions, as he said?
“But at the end of the day, it was in your hands and you blew it. It was in your hands and you blew it. All you had to do was draw the last game of the season. Couldn’t do it.”
At the end of the day, that is the part that many people end up overlooking. Going into the final game of the campaign, Hearts had everything in their hands.
If they could even draw that game, they would have been crowned champions. And Hearts were minutes away from doing that, as the score was tied at 1-1 at Parkhead.
Then, they collapsed late on as a goal from Daizen Maeda put Celtic ahead in the final minutes of the match. Hearts had no other option but to push for an equaliser, which opened up gaps at the back and Callum Osmand scored a third with the final kick of the game to seal the title for the Hoops in style.
McInnes does have a chance to win the Scottish Premiership this season with the Rangers. As things stand, they trail Celtic by four points, even though there is a lot of football left to play and the Hoops have shown more than enough vulnerability to encourage their challengers.
How good has Derek McInnes really been?
As for McInnes himself, it is hard to judge how his Ibrox managerial career has been so far. There are two ways to look at it.
On the one hand, they failed to make any European competition, having been knocked out of both the Europa League and Conference League qualifiers. That has to be a real low for the club.
Many had even expected him to get sacked quickly. But then, the two wins over Celtic might have saved McInnes for the time being.
Then again, that is more about how poor Celtic have been rather than whatever it is that the Rangers have shown so far this season. In the league, despite winning at Parkhead, they are still trailing the defending champions, who have plenty of room for improvement.
That should encourage Celtic fans that this is no special Rangers side, and if they can get their act together from here on forward, the title race might not be as difficult as most might be predicting right now.
