The news goes from bad to worse for Rangers, with the news that first team striker, Youssef Chermiti has suffered an ACL injury in the defeat to Hibernian.
It has been an absolutely honking start to the 26/27 season for Rangers under new manager, Derek McInnes.
The team have picked up just one point from the opening two games in the Scottish Premiership, and head into Thursday's Europa League qualifying second leg at home to Jagiellionia with a 2-1 deficit and it all to do in front of an anxious home crowd at Ibrox.
Well, the bad news just gets worse and worse. Indeed so, as earlier on today (Tuesday, the 11th of August 2026), the club have confirmed that striker Youssef Chermiti suffered an ACL injury in the 2-1 defeat at home to Hibs on Sunday afternoon.
The Portuguese striker had to be stretchered off in the first half of the game, and things did not look good. However, amidst the chaos at the frustration of yet another poor result, it sort of got lost in the tide a little bit in terms of the consciousness of the fans.
Just typical ultimately. Only days ago, it was reported that Rangers had turned down the opportunity to make a club sale, by turning down a £22m bid for Chermiti from Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Sounds terrible to say now, but the club probably could have done with that money, even before this bad injury. Now, they don't get any money, nor the player's services for the vast majority of this forthcoming season, a real double whammy for all involved.
During Monday's shareholder meeting, chairman Andrew Cavenagh confirmed the club would try to make a further 3-5 additions from now until the end of the window. Perhaps the vague number of '3-5' was depending on Chermiti's injury, and it will now be one more player than it otherwise would have been.
Well, the club certainly need to get a move on. Although there are still a few weeks remaining of the transfer window, the games are coming thick and fast in the meantime. Even if bodies do come in soon, you'd imagine it will be too late for the game on Thursday.
There are still six more games to play this month, so there will need to be players in the door well before the end of the month. The transfer window actually closes on the 1st of September, but the next game against Falkirk - on the 2nd - will be after the window has shut. So time to really get a move on.
