Serie A side Genoa slammed the door on Greek interest after demanding a premium fee, forcing Olympiacos to pivot elsewhere to bolster their midfield ranks.

According to a report by Tuttosport via TransferFeed, Serie A side Genoa reportedly rejected a significant offer from Olympiacos and other Greek clubs earlier in the summer transfer window for Morten Frendrup.

We at Roundtable reported late in August 2026 that Olympiacos had officially launched a bid to Genoa to secure the services of Frendrup on a permanent transfer. The bid was preceded by numerous developments of a strong interest in the Danish midfielder, who was viewed as a prime option for the Piraeus club for the midfield. When they could not land his signature, the Greek giants settled for the likes of Remo Freuler and Gustavo Puerta.

Genoa initially set a price tag of 14-15 million euros and hoped to add at least 10 million euros from the player's sale. However, with deadline day approaching, the Italian side shut the door on any potential sale of Frendrup.

Since the 2023-24 season, the 25-year-old has played an influential role in the heart of the Genoa midfield. He has been a regular starter for the side. He has never made a transfer request since he came from his youth club, Brondby, to Genoa on a 3.5 million euro deal.

In other news, Olympique Lyon are looking to leverage their amicable relationship with Olympiacos forward Roman Yaremchuk to materialise a signing this winter. While the Ukrainian has received a regular starting spot despite the performances of Armando 'Hormiga' Gonzalez this season under head coach Imanol Alguacil, the Red and Whites could be weighing the option of parting ways with him.

Yaremchuk found it tough to settle into the Olympiacos side under Jose Luis Mendilibar, as he was left out of the squad list and was then sent on loan to Lyon in the second half of the last campaign. However, following key meetings with the club management, he was reactivated into the squad as a necessary addition due to the long-term injury of Ayoub El Kaabi.

He became a club favourite during his brief loan tenure in Lyon, and the French outfit is now hoping to open negotiations with Olympiacos soon. The route remains filled with hurdles, as Yaremchuk is tied to the club with a long-term contract, and they have to offer the Greeks well more than his market value to convince president Evangelos Marinakis. Recent developments regarding the striker's game time will make it difficult for any interested party to seal his signing.
