Armando Gonzalez has verbally agreed to a five-year deal in Piraeus, leaving the Greek giants to finalise a multimillion-dollar fee with Chivas de Guadalajara for the forward.
Greek Super League side Olympiacos have struck a verbal agreement with Chivas de Guadalajara man Armando Gonzalez.
According to an update by Mexican journalist Fernando Esquivel, Chivas' Armando Gonzalez has agreed on a four-year contract with the option of extending it to an additional year with Olympiacos.
The deal is subject to a club-to-club agreement, which is yet to be fulfilled between the Greek giants and the Mexican side.
Chivas seem intent on selling their forward and have sent a counteroffer to the Red and Whites worth $10 million in transfer fees plus $3 million in bonuses. La Hormiga would sign for Olympiacos if they accept the deal; however, the Guadalajara-based club would retain a 20% resale value.
Alongside this news, Greek media reported (covered by Roundtable) that there is an agreement in principle between the two parties for Gonzalez's transfer, and the 23-year-old is expected to land in Piraeus soon to officially put pen to paper on his contract. Nikos Kotsis revealed that the "Mexican team responded positively to the final offer, which includes 8,500,000 euros + 2,000,000 euros in bonuses + a 10% sell-on percentage. The international striker has been in agreement with the Red and Whites for days and is expected in Greece by Wednesday."
The negotiation is awaiting final authorisation from Chivas as of now, and Olympiacos are set to reply to the counteroffer. The deal is not yet closed, but it is only a matter of time before an official announcement comes from both clubs. Gonzalez would join the likes of Ayoub El Kaabi and Mehdi Taremi in the Olympiacos attack as soon as he signs his contract with the club.
Keeping the Gonzalez deal alive, Olympiacos have opened another front in an already busy transfer window by approaching La Liga giants FC Barcelona for their new signing Jesse Bisiwu. Thrylos are looking for a reliable and pacey winger and have therefore sent a loan proposal to the Blaugrana to acquire the services of the Belgian teenager.
The Catalan outfit could be open to exploring the deal with Olympiacos since it will be tough for head coach Hansi Flick to give regular game time to Bisiwu in the upcoming season. At Piraeus, he can adequately develop under the guidance of Jose Luis Mendilibar, making him ready for Spanish football. The details of the offer are yet to be known, as Olympiacos continue to work behind the scenes to bring a young talent to the club.
